I'd say Aish plays like Cotchin, and Scharenberg reminds me of Sam Gilbert or Grant Birchall.

Aish will be a well rounded midfielder. He'll start off more outside due to currently weighing 74kgs, but once he adds a bit more size he will develop inside as well. He goes when it's his turn, and his movement trough traffic and ability to hit targets under pressure is brilliant.

I don't think Scharenberg will ever become a proper midfielder. He'll likely become the general of a teams backline in that he'll help his teammates out defensively and also rebound well. He'd definitely be an asset, but we need midfielders and Aish is a more talented player, we'd just need to develop him properly!

Aish is much better with ball in hands than Cotchin, if he can get as much ball then he will be a champ.

If we do get a PP we would likely pick both of them. But if we don't I think it must be Aish. That's if we finish 2nd last, I'm hoping we win more games as we all know draft picks aren't the answer. But I can't see us winning for than 1.

I personally believe that Scharenberg is the player for us. Yes he has only been playing midfield for the past 12 months but look how far he has already come. I see him as a natural footballer who is versatile and quite strong. We need a big bodied mid as we have a lot of those 180-185cm mids in our list. Don't get me wrong, I would love Aish in our side and if we get the priority pick get the pair but we need a bigger mid because im sick of being out muscled in clearances and around the ground.

I agree. Would love both him and Aish, and I know the recruitment staff do their best but seriously, if they're going to get it wrong, at least get it wrong with a player that had the attributes to excel in the first place!

Love the idea of having a guy of his Scharenberg's size lining up at the centre square.

As others have pointed out, we have a lot of small to medium sized mids and not one monster. He would add a lot as he is versatile enough to play multiple positions.

Many great midfields within the AFL have a few players around his build and height.

Goodes, kennedy, Corey, Mundy, Hayes...

Scharenberg would really compliment our midfield well. He is tough, smart and skill-full.

He isn't a midfielder, would get slaughtered in there and would not rectify our mid field issues one bit.

Scharenberg is a key position player IMO, I don't think he will make it as a mid fielder.

Would still be a decent get, just don't expect him to be the answer to our mid field issues.

89kg versus 74kg (Aish) convinces me. We don't want another Gysberts (who is now relegated to Werribee).

Posted this on another thread but there is a big difference between Aish, highly skilled hard working mid to Gysberts, average skills, no tank. That doesn't mean I wouldn't consider Scharenberg though.

No but we don't want another Goddard who lacks pace & at his size took 3 - 4 Yrs to get himself really established as a player.. if he's like Goddard, then pass.

IF we are to go tall & heavier, then I'd like someone of the mold of an Enright or JCorey, Kennedy, Pendlebury types.

.... re young mids, I'd really like to get the toughest mongrelist, nastiest, beast out there, as an inside first touch ball winner. a bigger bodied partner for Viney.

Prime prospects: Matthew Scharenberg

Brief video and article on a likely top 5 pick

He appears focused composed & professional. BUT, is he the same nice guy boy next door we keep on getting hooked on in the drafts???

he looks great but will he help us change or will he just be the same nice type we keep getting for the past 15 years?

I'm not sure, but he sure has a touch of class.

His name is Matt Crouch.

He king hit him, hahaha... That was classic, f'kin gold!

Gee it would be good if Crouch slipped to 20.

Collingwood will take him at Pick 10.

GF day and I'm bored!

Sounds a likely player for us! Another reason why trading out the top picks will be more or less unlikely with all the talent in the top 20!

injured and will miss the physical testing at draft camp ... may slip??

Hope so Spirit, but too many recruiters have seen him and rate him highly. Would love him to slip, but can't see him slipping to our 2nd pick unfortunately.

Scharenberg is a lock at 2 for me. We can train elite endurance but you cannot train footy smarts and precision skills like this kid has!

I would be happy with either Scarenburg or Sheed having checked the stats on both these exciting young prospects. I'm changing from Aish who has a lighter frame to the stronger bodied mid. God I hope we keep Pick 2 for one of these guys as they look very classy & get plenty of the ball which is just what we need.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
