WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - PAUL ROOS

Featured Replies

one ex player up in Brissie might be rueing his descision to leave. All he had to do was suck it up for a few months and wait for the tide to turn

Bit hard when the coach at the time is trying to shove u out the door.

Yes i thought the same. I watched the presser for about 25 mins

dont suppose you have a link to the full presser?

am i the only one thats disappointed he only signed up for 2 years?

Doesnt seem fully committed which has left me with hollow feeling

Have a look at GNF's explanation a few pages back that will make u feel better.

After I read it it made me feel better.

ROUND 1, 2014

FRIDAY MARCH 21st

196 days until we see a Roos MFC team with Hogan at FF

We should have a count down clock on demonland?

Paul Roos will be talking to the mmm boys tonight at 6. Well the coverage starts at 6 but Jb said they are talking to him tonight so it could be anytime in the 1st hour

One more piece of uncut, confirmed news.

MFC wanted 5 years, but Paul Roos would not commit. However, Paul Roos verbally said he WILL coach beyond 2 years and beyond 3 years if all is going well. Roos wanted an out should admin, board etc fail to maintain the structure and standards he requires.

This should keep the entire organisation in line.

took DemonOx's advice above and hunted down this post

I feel much better now and it all makes more sense lol

WELCOME TO THE MFC PAUL ROOS

JB would have to be silently spitting chips !!!!! :)

That's free advice from DR Ox!!!!!

dont suppose you have a link to the full presser?

No i watched it live (was streamed on the MFC site)

A slightly random query but not worth starting a thread over, does anyone know if his son can play?

NO

Will also be on SEN between 6-7 too

THe Ox & Dr Turf are quite pumped today.

Isn't it a massive difference in the approach Roos has taken compared to Neeld. Connecting emotionally with the players at the earliest possible time is so crucial. Roos has stated they're great young boys and really wants them to stay at the club and succeed.

Roos' call out of Watts was absolute gold. Kind of tongue in cheek, but matter of fact at the same time. As if to say "you're not going anywhere son" .

Yup.

You'd love to see what Roos would do with him eh?

What is done is done. Time to move on from that disaster. Now cant wait to see the turn-around with the existing players.

Amazing what can happen when playing with some confidence, Everyone here are over the moon with Roos as coach, imagine how the players feel right now. I havent felt this upbeat since we got into the finals in 2006.

Fair enough, maybe im being greedy

hopefully he gets a taste for it and we have success and he stays on long term

on a side note, what a joke the Afl.com and Melbournefc.com dont have the full press conference on there to watch

dunno where you were , but I and lots of others saw the whole thing , start to finish , went for 35 mins

also Machiavelli's post suggesting that by talking up a near-future successor coach we open up the floor for ambitious assistants to get on board. If we said Roos has the helm for 5 years then some with senior coach aspirations might shy away. Makes ense to me. As others have said, it also works for us, should the unthinkable happen and we want rid of roos early we don't want to be paying out like 5 mil on his contract... obviously. I'm at peace with it now.

JB would have to be silently spitting chips !!!!! :)

The seething from other clubs is LOL.

Good on you GNF for keeping us posted all this time, and for being bang on the money! Thanks heaps mate

What a great day. Time to sit back with a bag of microwave popcorn and re-read this entire thread.

Bob Hawke has just stated any boss that sacks a Demon supporter on Monday is a bum.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • PREGAME: Gold Coast

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
