This forum is all opinion and hearsay.

Why should his contract be paid out?

The blue print means he may stay.

I don't think you're qualified to talk about payouts, with all due respect.....

so youre saying if he doesnt get sacked he wont get paid out, thanks for pointing that out

Thanks, but does not seem to be the case for me. Can i ask you to report for me?

I don't see the report button either...

Well that's weird.

I would, but I think that's been done already. The offending line has been removed from the post.

Weird or pathetic, anyway today's findings will be interesting, on the AFL website it says they want a strong MFC and are willing to help out, I for one along with my family are very grateful for the AFL help, because when you think about it the way this board has run down this club since jim passed has been nothing short of disgraceful , the supporters should be thankful the AFL aren't throwing us out in the cold.

Interesting AFL.COM.AU article on Colless' view of MFC. Link

A quote from it:

"But they just seem to have lost everything and have had so many top-10 picks. It's just extraordinary the way they have collapsed. It almost beggars belief, to be perfectly honest."

Says it all for me.

Colless never mentioned the millions they have pocketed over the years.

Does anyone know what time the met is and if there will be any announcements today or over the weekend?

"MELBOURNE CEO Peter Jackson remained tight lipped as he entered AFL House at 9:30am on Friday to present his plan for the ailing Demons to the AFL Commission."

"AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou said the League looked forward to seeing how it could help the Demons, but a decision on any assistance package was unlikely to be made on Friday."

"He has made it clear there will be changes but he will not be rushed into making them until he has a plan in place for the club's future."

On this subject we are in total agreement mjt.

we are in a big hole and have finally stopped digging.

IMO without AFL help we are in serious trouble.

Please Help Mr. AFL as we have proved we are incompetent on our own.

Mixed feelings about the AFL funding this restructure... but in a way they are also a reason why we are at this place.

We have to take responsibility for our actions, and so will the people at the club, I'm not blaming the AFL 100% here.

We made our poor choices.

BUT, where other clubs have struggled they have had pure access to 1 & 2 draft picks, look at St. Kilda from 200 to 2003.

However we had access to one year, 2009, before the AFL expansion clubs entered and were also competing.

To make matters worse they essentially funded GWS to take $cully, and they gave us the third largest fine in history for not tanking.

What I'm trying to get at is we put ourselves in this situation, but the AFL has kicked us a few times when we have been down.

You'll never see a reporter say this because of the AFL information drip, but its true.

I'd go cap in hand but I'm worried we will have the tag "only here because they got bailed out by the AFL"... I'll guess I'll have to say "remember you're playing our game, on our home ground" - First and (hopefully) forever

Sounds sensible to me, the hole we have dug is large there is no simple solution to a multi head problem.

Colless never mentioned the millions they have pocketed over the years.

Yes he did ...

"Money is important. The Swans know that as well as anyone. Without some additional support from the AFL in the 1990s, we just couldn't survive," he said.

"But just giving clubs money doesn't solve the problem. I don't think that does the club any favours.

"There has to be a really hard-nosed plan of how the club is going to resurrect itself over a five-year period.

"You've got to look at the better clubs, snap out of denial ... and almost start again."

I think Colless is right on the money.

And I'm sure Jackson will deliver a 'hard-nosed plan'.

Colless never mentioned the millions they have pocketed over the years.

He did mention the importance of the $s the Swans received in the 90's. Said they wouldn't have survived without it.

You can't blame Caroline for this, not today.

She's doing her job, and has obviously been pulled into line with the way she's doing it.

I'd go cap in hand but I'm worried we will have the tag "only here because they got bailed out by the AFL".

I don't care.

The expansion clubs are costing $200 million all up. They've made it harder for clubs currently at the bottom of the ladder to recruit (apart from the fact that we've done an awful job with what we did get).

I have no qualms about getting some support from the AFL in the environment they've set up.

Yeah I thought the comments from Colless were mostly pretty much on the money. I've stated before that I don't mind the idea of us being at ground zero, as long as we are definitely at ground zero and are starting to head upwards. Over this last year and half I have felt like we're going backwards with no sign of that stopping. Please let this next chapter be the turning point!

if i can belt out our song at full volume after the final siren i do not give a dam what rival supporters or clubs say.

Just remember all the assistance Carlscum got.

Judd 3rd party. Pratt was allowed to do a lot that the AFL let go.

We need similiar allowances.

Spot on rufus. I too am not against the concept of a rebuild. I am annoyed that so much money was pizzed up against the wall and that so many people's hard work and donations amounted to nil. However, if that's where we are, that's where we are. Just make sure that we are heading in the right direction this time.

Over the past 7 years (since 2006) we have had 5 top 10 draft picks...interesting to note over the past 3 years we have had 1 top 10 pick

Cale Morton #4 - 2007

Jack Watts #1 - 2008

Tom Scully #1 - 2009

Jack Trengove #2 - 2009

Jimmy Toumpas #4 - 2012

Over that same period (since 2006):

  • Carlton had 3 [top 10 picks]
  • West Coast had 4
  • Buldogs had 3
  • Essendon had 4
  • Port Adelaide had 5
  • Gold Coast had 5
  • GWS had 11

I think its pretty easy for an interstate footy boss to critise a Victorian team considering the money thrown at them over the past 20 years.

What about the handouts in the last 13 years, that club has received more than any club in the AFL, you telling me they haven't had assistance in the last decade, who wins a flag and gets Tippett .

Fine statement that, just about sums you up

He was given the opportunity by a 'journalist', a free kick, so he took it, deflects away from the millions they received, holier than thou

Slander now, didn't think your standards could slip much further, I was wrong

Meeting started at 9.30 am according to the AFL website. May not be announcements today but maybe Caro may report something in the Age tomorrow if there has been no news?

Thanks fbpo

You are right. Sydney get a great deal. But Colless is right to. We have completely wasted so much over the last 6 years.

I hope this is when the AFL make it possible for the MFC to get the top people in.

I stand by what i have said. A strong winning MFC is a major assett for the AFL.

Does anyone else find it slightly humorous that if we get funding support from the AFL, they will essentially be funding our payment of the "not tanking but bringing integrity of the sport into disrepute" fine.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
