Agree with you RL heres hoping. One thing though I cant see GWS taking Jamar for mids, do you think they would, given his form this year. Gawn Spence doing the rucking next year, do you think their ready 4 that? Should we be looking for more rucks as well?

I wasn't saying you implied we were going to get a Cotchin-style player. Even targeting a B/C-grade midfielder who can come in and help is difficult. As in, it's one thing to identify what needs to happen, it's another to get it done. I'd love us to go get Dale Thomas or any other midfielder who is available and potentially could join us, but we have to both find these players and convince them to come to us instead of any of the other 17 clubs. That's not easy.

Agree. That is where we are and what we have to do though.

Your point?

I just noted that he was continually being asked whether the Saints are rebuilding and he finally admitted they were. That of course only happens, when you are at the wrong end of the ladder.

I can. Brogan will retire and they have only Giles left. Jamar would be a big get for them as I can't see them getting Leuenberger, who they want.

Gawn, Spencer, Fitzy in the ruck with Sellar and Pedersen pinch hitting and maybe with Mitch for a few minutes here and there. Also we could rookie another young ruckman.

Yeah it could turn quickly. We all know our midfield is deplorable at the moment. But if we can get some high quality mids I think we are decent everywhere else.

Well then it comes down to the gameplan and structures.

CS never was able to implement his Red and Blueprint.

We should be able to implement my Blue and Redprint. It is far simpler and doesn't dwell on our history.

Today 's Australian says we are looking at AFL man Matthew Drain as the head of football.

He has wide experience at several clubs and in a number of different roles. He would also probably have the AFL 's blessing bringing us closer to much needed financial and draft assistance.

We absolutely have to stop trading all of our senior players to other clubs towards the end of their careers. It's killing the bloody joint.

I want to see some players start and then, God forbid, finish their careers with this club.

Why can't people see the importance of this?

The fallout from the axing of Junior should highlight the dangers of not keeping experienced clubmen/leaders as long as possible. However, "some" is a keyword in your post.

We have finished quite a few careers already.

The problem RB isn't that we are trading away senior players, its that senior players are choosing to leave, or should retire, but think they are good enough to play on.

We offered Bruce one more year, he wanted two and left, but quickly found out that one was all he had.

Junior should have been allowed to stay, however that is a great hindsight call, and is only made with respect to the leadership he would have brought, not his onfield output, he was the wrong side of 30 and had struggled to overcome injuries in his last season.

Green was at retirement age, had struggled for a couple of years, announced his retirement and suddenly started playing like a 25 year old again. Another year? Possibly, but he would have had to be willing to do the hard yards over the pre-season.

Moloney has been discussed to death.

Robbo was 'retired' insisted he had something to give, wasn't drafted by any other club.

Neitz, apart from Junior, our last true senior player and leader, was allowed to play until the end.

Rivers chose to leave to chase finals - all power to him.

Davey and Jamar are both being allowed to play out their careers here at this stage.

Which other senior player did we trade away before their time?

I think that's a big part of the problem there 'deanox', we haven't had any. As has been pointed out before it was the time around 2000 that's caused a lot of our problems now with lack of leaders at the club.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
