Time to release Trengove as Captain and let him realise his full potential as a B-Grade midfielder

"Releasing" him as captain will add more pressure now not less.

Remember he's coming back from a very limited preseason. Was higher rated than Grimes today in DT points, where's the pressure for him?

Only 10 tackles. What a pathetic effort.

I thought he has been very impressive as captain off the field and he is getting plenty of tackles, the fact he is probably still very underdone and it was a fairly high tempo game it seemed like he ran out of legs

we have much bigger issues than Trengove being captain

every time a commentator makes an anti-melbourne comment you can bet a demonlander will make a thread as if it was their idea

Yeah lets have Jones captain, what did he do today?

Or Clark?

Actually maybe only Grimes, its not like he gave up a goal with a clean turnover at least once was it.

How about we stick with the two we have and keep going.

If half the team tackled like Trenners we'd be miles better.

people quoting 'dreamteam points' know nothing about footy

Good to hear his tackle count is up. You tackle when you have the ball right?

We say we dont show effort yet you want to take the leadership off the guy who had 10 tackles. He was given our best player on the AFL site. Giles you are an A Grade tool.

Please reassure me about how JT is "very impressive as captain off the field"... What do you know? I so need some reassurance about this team off the field now.

Delist. Bad draft pick. Their is nothing that he has shown to indicate he will be an AFL standard player. Slow, poor kick, can not kick long, poor awareness and uninspiring as a teammate. He was never seen as a high draft pick until late in the national championships, and Melbourne got caught up in the hype of his SANFL finals game. He was an early developer that could play well against jouniers or state players, but not up to it. Can't believe he was gifted the captaincy as a marketing play, embarrassing as a club. Should not play AFL again, cut the loses and move on.

Been watching his press conferences mate? he has been strong and confident under alot of pressure and is really growing as a leader and he has had 10 tackles today ( indicates he works very hard when he doesn't have the ball ) to do that two weeks in a row coming off a stress fracture is very impressive,

we had quite a few worse players than trennas today.

Very harsh comments here.

Clearly underdone, but we had some dumb footballers today...he was putting on a block and I counted 5 or 6 times where the ball was handballed to him!!!!

Ffs, he was blocking!!!!

Dumb.

Do we just? Bigger issues rather than a captain, being a midfielder , having there

pants pulled down by a Brisbane midfield missing Black, Rich and Polec to name

a few. I'd say its bang in the money as one of the biggest issues.

Watch much football ole mate?

No, that's normally when you would get a disposal - he was equal 5th highest in those BTW...

But you're right, a hard tackling game just isn't glamorous enough.

Today was his 64th game, he is coming off a very serious injury, clearly underdone and a massive off field distraction and those are the factors we know of.

he has had what 17 touches 10 tackles i'd say that's acceptable

the biggest problem is we expect him to play like a 164 game player, he isn't it's a big effort to be out there at all

Not where i'd like him to be as a footballer either but to say he is deserving of the comments that are being made about him is insane.

he is far from the top of our long list of problems

OK. So it seems we're happy with the way he’s travelling and the way we're going? That’s all I wanted to know.

Max Gawn for Capitan!!!

OK. So it seems we're happy with the way he’s travelling and the way we're going? That’s all I wanted to know.

Happy with Trengove all things considered i wouldn't consider his form an issue, happy with how we are going absolutely not because most of the team lacks the effort Trengove puts in.

OK. So it seems we're happy with the way he’s travelling and the way we're going? That’s all I wanted to know.

taking into account the pre season he had, i think he is progressing as expected

5th is on the podium, yeah?

Think you're in the wrong forum.

Keep the quality posts coming.

I think he has the skills! I think we have made him into too much of a defensive player. Look at Luke hodge, his not quick at all but still Finds plenty of the ball.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
