I know mate but the article i quoted from was an Aussie article too. Soft padded helmet does bugger by the looks of things, big heavy ridgid ones the same.

Both good articles but he way I read them they seem to state that there was no evidence to show whether soft padded helmets reduced concussion or not, and that more research was required. Interesting one of the solutions they put forward is to make head gear thicker and heavier". I think one thing we can agree on is once a player starts to accumulate concussions they seem to occur more frequently. By that stage it might be too late to wear a helmet as the damage is done.

They might not have much effect on concussion. You'd have to think they'd have an effect on skull fractures, cuts and bruising though.

Not sure if its been mentioned, but there was a very good feature on 4 Corners about 6 mths ago which looked into this with some detail. The gist of it was that the padded helmets help protect against skull fractures, cuts, etc on the 'structure' of the head, but offer little protection against concussion or brain injury as a result of movement inside the skull. It was particularly relevant to American football, where they have repeat head hits over and over, and they practice these hits over and over at training.

It really isn't worth the risk, hopefully the medicos will put his safety and future wellbeing ahead of the needs of the football club.

It may well be that in fact these interests concur ie all would be better off were he to pull the plug before he does become like Daniel Bell.

As I said earlier it is only a game he has another 50 - 60 years ahead of him.

Leave the game now Rohan life is full of great things but you need a brain that functions well to enjoy them.

I wonder if the 'hit' by Dunn described in the training reports was one of the concussions?
