The tragic downfall of Liam Jurrah

Featured Replies

No, this thread has just became about a bunch of sooks, who support drink drivers, domestic abuse and wreckless violence.

Now, like I said earlier, stick to the topic, this thread isn't about myself - it is about Demonlands favorite in Liam Jurrah.

You are the only one who has been taking this off topic... most posters have discussed the sad fact that LJ's life has fallen apart for whatever reasons... you however, come in as judge, jury and executioner, without so much as a modicum of consideration for the most basic tenet in our legal system, "innocent until proven guilty"; you simply laid into him, boots and all. You tried to take this further off topic with accusations of racism supposedly being directed at you, you take this off topic by referring to anyone who has anything nice to say about Jurrah as a "Jurrah defender" in a belittling way, you take this off topic by posting over the fact that posters are abusing you, while you close your comments by doing precisely the same thing.

So how about you stop feigning offence at what others might say about you and try to make a meaningful contribution to the discussion.

I am trying to keep this on topic, however you - like others - cannot respect that.

I shall let you lads simmer until the morning, good night my loyal ones.

You have to earn respect.

Struggling to believe that a sober Demonlander would post drivel like this

Whatever you take to make you stupid really does work.

Witnesses drunk...

Witness recanting evidence citing police trying to direct his statement.

Conflicting claims about LJ's involvement including persistent and utterly conflicting suggestions he was trying to act as thug and peacemaker.

I can't see a 'beyond reasonable doubt guilty' finding here.

And that's without taking into account motive for implicating LJ, which is the admitted ill-feeling towards him and his mob by his accusers.

I agree Pitmaster but we haven't sat through the proceedings for seven days or really had the opportunity to gauge the atmosphere of the trial and, in the meantime, Liam Jurrah's fate hangs in the balance.

" The jury has been sent home for the night and will return to continue their deliberations from 10am tomorrow."

Not sure if that's a positive or a negative for Liam.

They have a lot to consider because of the contradictions in the evidence of the witnesses which seem to have been drawn along the lines of which side of the feuding parties they happen to belong.

Beyond reasonable doubt - The standard that must be met by the prosecution's evidence in a criminal prosecution: that no other logical explanation can be derived from the facts except that the defendant committed the crime, thereby overcoming the presumption that a person is innocent until proven guilty.

There is so much doubt as to whether Liam is guilty or innocent of the crimes he is alleged to have committed, under the laws that govern this country and the rights afforded to its citizens, there can only be but one possible verdict.

He'll get looked after, I don't think anyone thought he'd ever do time.

Eventually he'll most likely go in for something or other - I just hope he doesn't kill anyone on the road in the process.

Drink drivers are a real worry.

He'll get looked after ? no one thought he'd ever do time ? Yes..of course....because indiginous Australians have a such a hoot with the legal system..and please point to all the no-ones who though he wouldnt do time ?

Drink drivers are a worry - correct and agree with the hope that he and the countless others who choose to drink drive dont kill anyone. ( you will acknowledge that Liam is not in a particular exclusive club when he choose to drink and get behind the wheel of his car)

Eventually he'll go in for something or other - you are real piece of work

DD, this is probably the first time I've comented on this topic. The reason? Becasue I am not sitting in that court room, I'm not a lawyer, and I have had no access to any evidence whatsoever. How you can make the above comment is amazing, mainly because you have NFI about it, other than from what you have read in the paper.

Don't get me wrong, you may have guessed correctly, but that's all it is, a guess.

And to the mods, I am astonished that you have let this thread go on. Yes, there is general interest in it, but it's a very sensitve case, it's a legal matter, and the amount of inappropriate comments being made is appalling.

So you have backed off on your machete wielding, woman beating attacks?

As nutbean correctly stated, LJ is hardly alone in the drink driving stakes and no-one is saying he should be absolved simply because of who he is as there is irrefutable evidence that he was well over the limit... note the word "evidence". He will no doubt receive the appropriate penalties for that effort.

Meanwhile, you think he will get off these current assault charges purely because of who he is and that he will eventually do time for some future crime - in other words, in the event that LJ is found not guilty through the courts, you will always believe that he is guilty; I disagree with nutbean's assessment of you being "a piece of work"; you are an extremely nasty piece of work!

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
