Our forward line has been significantly improved, with the dawes and burns acquisition,

our midfield, we have added rodan, viney and hopefully wines and lost moloney and gysberts who played 12 games between them this year, you'd like to think thats an improvement

our back line has always been fine, but adding pederson will only strengthen it and add flexibility all over

My point is everyone we lost, (bar rivers, who played forward for the better half of the year was replaced by dawes you'd like to think thats an improvement) had no impact this year, there were 19 games played between moloney, martin and gysberts.

thats a quick positive way to look at this entire scenario. We have not lost anything from last years 22, but only added players who we know can play some what. Rodan and byrnes up and running are improvements on bail/bate and bennel, dawes and pederson on martin and rivers as well, then wines and viney for beamer and gys.

Not as bad as we all think.

It looks like we effectively used the trade period to move on those players who were contracted and failed to fit within the team's future structure while we could still get value for them. Although I think it was almost a bit of a fire sale when you consider Morton was moved for just pick 88.

All-in-all, I think our team is much better balanced then it was at the start of last season. I think everyone we picked up could potentially be in the first 22 round 1 next season.

It is amazing when you thing a guy picked at 4 is now 5 years later more or less worthless at 88.

One day I will contemplate our drafting over the last decade but i think I know the result.

He's not worth that. Everyone saw what he did in the QB game. Add that to 65 sub-par games out of 70 and its a win to get rid of him.

Look at Clinton Young. Stuffed up twice in a GF and gawn from the Hawks. Its a cruel game.

It's ok, all the whingers and whiners are busy on the Who the Hell is Responsible? Thread. They'll discover this one soon enough and everything will be back to normal.

As frustrating as it is based on the positions taken in the draft and very early form, neither Morton nor Gysberts were able to cement positions in our midfield for a variety of reasons.

We weren't exactly fighting off clubs with a chair and whip like lion tamers, this shows an awareness of their deficiencies by others.

Neeld is all about attitudes and actions, one can only assume that the attitudes and actions shown thus far from these player are substandard.

I think that has to be a NETT GAIN

Everyone must have known he was up for trade, and that's the best we could get. By definition then, that's what he was worth - disappointing as perhaps that may be.

They played a clip of Wallace discussing Melbourne's trade where he stated that Melbourne identified the older players/leaders at the club had perhaps been too scarred by the past and weren't the type of leaders to teach our young players about success, hence the experienced premiereship players and players with great work ethics.

Prendergast's words were something like Terry has hit the nail on the head. The reason for the heavy trading was two fold. They needed to address some serious issues in the forward line with the lack of strength and presence up there currently but with a view to the future too (read: HOGAN). They also needed to address the midfield which they have done in part with Viney, Pick 4 and Barry (And will continue to be addressed), but the second major part of it was to bring in really good leaders, known hard trainers and blokes from premiership clubs and successful organisations to teach our players what is required.

He spoke well.

It is a shame meat heads like Barrett, Ralph, Denham and co can't see the forrest for the trees but that is why they are (hack) journalists...

Is it generally accepted that any or all of Rodan, Dawes, Pedersen and Byrnes are "really good leaders" and/or "known hard trainers"? (I don't think there is any evidence that can support a claim that Viney, Barry or Hogan are, although they may well fit that description once they start - and I wouldn't expect them to be at their age.)
