Neeld got it seriously wrong with both Magner and Couch, there was probably 20 better players available, thus his assesment of Dawes is really concerning and probably clouded due to personal friendship.

Sorry I don't have a list, but I am talking all leagues Australia wide, Valenti, Geelongs Selwood VFL bro, even kids that were overlooked and not listed, all worth a go instead of just making up the numbers, with battlers just for the sake of it. Edited by bluey

That's some pretty solid evidence to back up your '20 better players' claim Bluey. Not.

I doubt Neeld is the kind of guy to let personal friendship affect decisions in his workplace. I think his assessment of Dawes is probably a lot more accurate than yours Bluey, having coached and worked with him directly for a number of years.

I'd trust Neeld to make the call that Dawes will add a lot to our side.

To add to that, Magner and Couch (not so much at senior level yet) are two of the best rookie listed players we have picked up in the last few years IMO, so he's doing better than the Bailey camp so far.

I'm somewhat nervous as well concerning Dawes and all things Collingwood that Neeld seems to love. We must not use picks 3 or 4 or 13 for Dawes. MM doesn't seem to be enamoured with him as Carlton hasn't expressed interest that this stage.

The 3 years for Jamar and McKenzie makes me think that Neeld isn't the messiah some think he is. I just hope i'm bloody wrong.

I agree with you on Couch and Magner. They are battlers at best and won't have a long term future at MFC.

Keep one as a second year rookie and delist the other. Don't care which one.

Not too many have done that.

Not sure if it was his first kick. If I remember he kicked a goal in the first quarter, then there was an incident before the ball returned to the centre, so he was given a second kick from which he goaled again.

He went from a ball winning machine in the first 2 rounds (and the preseason) to a defensive midfielder/forward to a sub and then to out of the team. I think Neeld definitely made a mistake in where he placed him. Should've freed him up a lot more

Sure - but this was a learning year for the players and the coach.

We will se if he has learned when we see Magner in the midfield almost exclusively 2013.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.     REMATCH by Meggs

    The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week.
