Terry Wallace on our trading/drafting

Featured Replies

Been covered plenty of times, but Moloney is a free agent, so cannot be included in any trades...

Yes and no.

We probably won't but we could sign him up and then trade him for better compensation than what the AFL would give...

I have thought about this and while I don't think it is likely to happen in AFL - it is feasible.

And this is just spitballing possibilities with RFA - I would like to keep some senior players around even the NQR ones.

Need bodies we do.

Can someone explain to me why, when we need strong mature bodies, we would trade our mid first round pick + one of our strong mature bodies for another young midfielder?? Sylvia has been getting more and more consistent since the mid-season break and is one of the players I believe we need to keep. There are few mid's like him in the league. Beamer would be the one who should go if it came down to those two, but I don't see the sense in giving up a first round pick in a loaded draft (who could turn out to be just as good as Caddy) plus a mature mid, just so we can get another 20 yr old mid?

What is the sense in that? I can understand moving pick 13 for Boak, but given we just got Clark for pick 12 last season, please explain to me why Caddy should cost us more than that??

By the way, I know that pick 13 comes after pick 12, so we're not giving up a higher pick, but we are giving up more when you factor in the additional mature midfielder. Lets not forget that Caddy is far from a proven commodity as well.

Just thought its worth mentioning how wonderful it is to see Essendon on the cusp of missing the finals.

A reminder: if Essendon fall out of the 8, our mid-round compo pick is effectively bumped forward a place (as they will select Daniher, whereas another team would select a player we'd probably have our eyes on).

I'm all for having a red hot crack at Caddy, but not if it involves Sylvia.

There is so much upside to this guy - and, in my view, he's really showing some good signs this year.

With the maturity that he now seems to be displaying, he's future Brownlow material. Should not be on the table - especially given how how much work/patience we've put into him.

Clark and Sylvia are our aces.

And pick 13 plus Sylvia for Caddy is a very bad deal.

To give that much away, I'd sincerely hope we'd have our sights set much higher than on a talented young player who, to date, has shown little more than a bit of potential and hardness around the ball.

Sylvia kicks goals too FWIW.

Pick 13 and pettard for caddy and toy (and agreement with gc not to touch viney).

Pick 3 for u17 martin (and an agreement on the sly for gws not to touch viney)

We get:

Pick 4 (toumpas or other top yound midfielder)

Martin

Cloke fa

Caddy

Viney

Happy days...

Please no Cloke!!! Way over rated and would suck up too much of the resources. Quality mids with some pace a must.

Why can we not trade him? Isn't he a restricted FA this year? Trading for him would help another club out as they would not have to beat our price on him.

Yes, we can trade him but we have to do these things:

Match the contract that has been offered by Club A.

Get Club A to agree to a trade for the player. Keeping in mind that the club was interested in said player perhaps because no trade was involved.

Ask yourself whether Cloke is worth it in FA (also a FA) and then ask yourself whether he is worth it if Collingwood had the cap room to say "give us Howe and Jones."

Fraught with danger is 'signing and trading ' RFAs.

Pick 80 for Caddy and we keep Sylvia

I would say pick 13 and a Bennel or Petterd or BOTH type of deal. I wouldnt bet money that Caddy will be a better player than Sylvia tbh without and picks involved.

JT I don't know what all the fuss is about with Caddy.

He is average not worth 13 in a pink fit.

The last thing the MFC needs is another average recruit that we take 3 years to work out he is average.

I am not trying to be a smart Ar-- but what do you see in him?

From my view he has don't very little since being drafted.

In reality goldcoast won't want to take a combination of multiple picks & players in return for a single player in Caddy, as this year, like last, the Suns have to further trim their list by a couple of spots.

Isn't caddy out of contract this year, so he can just walk into the nd if he wants to because a trade just gets too hard

Sorry Dr. but I cannot let this one go through unchallenged

Bennell has played 57 games of a possible 84 games( 68% ) since he arrived at the MFC He has to my knowledge had no serious injuries until two weeks ago.

In most of his 57 games he has rarely justified his inclusion the following week.

I think The MFC have given him a great run.

What you say about injuries ruining players might be true of a number but Bennell is not one of them.

He simply is not good enough

I'd send Bennell to our rookie list.

If not delist.

He won't get to the Dons thru the N-D.

I'm on the See-Saw now re my POV, on Col Sylvia.

I'd like to keep him as long as he's truly ready to be a leader, running hard "Both ways".

If not I'd entertain a trade to the Saints or other club in a similar ladder position, who would look to trade they're Pick 11-ish for a 'Sylvia'.

I dont honestly i was trying to make the point that 13 AND a Moloney is way overs, i know he was rated very highly as a junior and is unhappy where he is seemingly, but Morton was highly rated too and isnt worth pick 13 atm so i am more with you Oldee. the question is will he be better just by being in VIC for the change or not? people seem to think so, Emme Qauyle ect rate him so...

Pick 13 will likely be a player like Wines, O'rourke, Garlett or Kennedy or Menzel who are all playing great U18's, Caddy is very much hype

It can equally be said that Wines, O'Rourke, Garlett and Kennedy are purely 'hype' at this stage.

At least Caddy has two years in the system and has a tough AFL-ready body.

I strongly suspect Neeld will be looking to add a mature bodied player by trading that no.12 pick, given we will (hopefully) be taking the third and fourth best kids in the country with pick 3 and 4.

Because Wallace's Drafting at Richmond was so good.

I'll listen to Terry Wallace's drafting tips right after I finish my book on Hitler's Advice for World Peace.

Godwin's Law hread

This is the man who was in charge of a recruiting team that took Richard Tambling over Franklin?

Move on.

LOL x 3

He won't get to the Dons thru the N-D.

Edited for accuracy.

Yeah my point is more that from the limited footage i have seen of Caddy i am not sure i am convinced he will be a better option than the players who will most likely be available at pick 13

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
