Slim pickings to replace the man who was 2nd in our B&F behind Nathan Jones (YTD)

It must be Stef Martin in this week.

Here is the DEMONS website review of the Casey performers

FORWARD line development coach Paul Satterley runs through the Melbourne-listed players who played for Casey against Sandringham Zebras at Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Saturday

Jamie Bennell: - Kicks 6, Handballs 8, Marks 3, Goals 1

Jamie played half-back and showed glimpses of the form that previously won him AFL selection (14 disposals and a goal). He backed his speed and skills to generate some run for Casey. Jamie should take plenty of confidence out of this effort and now build some consistency in coming weeks.

Lucas Cook: - Kicks 8, Handballs 5, Marks 3

Lucas worked hard as a key forward. His leading and movement has improved significantly with his increased fitness. Unlike previous weeks, he did not finish off his work in front of goal, kicking three behinds.

Tom Couch: - Kicks 8, Handballs 6, Marks 2, Tackles 3, Goals 1

Tom was heavily tagged again. He was made to earn every possession. Although kept quiet for most of the game, he stuck to the task and kicked the winning goal when someone had to stand up.

Troy Davis: - Kicks 9, Handballs 6, Marks 5, Tackles 1, Goals 1

Troy played on a very capable and experienced forward in Beau Wilkes, who proved difficult to negate. Troy made some important spoils and continues to improve his disposal efficiency, particularly by foot.

Jordan Gysberts: - Kicks 16, Handballs 7, Marks 1, Tackles 2

In ideal conditions for Jordan, he led the side in hard ball gets (13) and kicked two very good goals. The pleasing aspect was that he worked much better defensively which complimented his game.

Stef Martin: - Kicks 14, Handballs 7, Marks 7, Tackles 1, Goals 2

Playing as a key forward and second ruck, Stef was very physical and hit the packs hard, giving a strong contest in the air and at ground level. Stef's form in recent weeks will help boost his chances for senior selection.

Ricky Petterd: - Kicks 8, Handballs 4, Marks 2, Goals 2

Returning from injury, Ricky was very efficient with the ball and kicked two classy goals. His attack on the ball was a great example to his teammates. More importantly, he pulled up really well and now just has to get his consistency in games and build his match fitness.

Jai Sheahan: - Kicks 6, Handballs 1, Marks 2, Tackles 2

Jai was given time up forward for the first time at VFL level and competed well in the air when needed. A much improved effort on the previous game.

Jake Spencer: - Kicks 3, Handballs 3, Hit outs 29

Jake won 29 hit outs and used the ball well when he had it. His next step is to impose himself more around the ground as he is very capable in the air.

James Strauss: - Kicks 8, Handballs 10, Marks 4, Tackles 4

James improved with each quarter. He reads the game really well and his use of the ball by foot is a real strength. His running is no longer hampered by his previous injury and we can see his confidence growing week by week.

Josh Tynan: - Kicks 14, Handballs 2, Marks 6, Tackles 1

It is very clear that Josh relishes the contested ball both in the air and at ground level. He is another player who is improving form and fitness and just needs to keep doing the basics well.

Leigh Williams: - Kicks 5, Handballs 4, Marks 3, Tackles 1, Goals 1

His return to senior footy is a positive in itself. He works hard, is a very honest player who gives a contest whenever the ball is in his vicinity. Difficult conditions for the forwards, he will be better for the run.

VFL development league

Jack Fitzpatrick: - Kicks 6, Handballs 1, Marks 2, Tackles 3, Hit outs 10, Goals 2

We were pleased to have Jack playing. He was very team orientated, kicked a couple of goals and pulled up really well.

Kelvin Lawrence: - Kicks 5, Handballs 7, Tackles 5, Goals 1

Kelvin kicked a goal, chased and worked hard defensively.

Of course it will be. Let's be honest, does anyone actually believe that Cook will make his debut this week, especially when Martin had such a good game for Casey?

On a side note, good to see Gysberts and Petterd doing a bit.

Would still love to see Couch have a run in the AFL too. Reward for effort.

It has to happen sooner or later; we've been saying this since Round 1! Maybe Magner will be rested some time soon and Couch will be given a run.

If Cook had kicked a couple on the weekend I think he would have been in line for selection, but playing as a key forward in the VFL, he needs to kick a few there every week before he gets the call up.

Haven't we been talking about this in another thread for days? And Casey player review is in the Casey thread.

Yeah.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
