Wells was brilliant - 130 Brownlow votes . About 20 shy of the great Flower . I can't remember Wells playing too many bad games . Alves wasn't far short either . Pity we didn't have a much of a forward line in those days though we did have a few goers up forward . Biffo had a go !

Not exactly lines, but these groups were pretty good:

94 spine: Lyon, Schwarz, Stynes, Neitz, Wight

94 half back line: Prymke, Neitz, B. Lovett

94 forward line that contained: Schwarz, Lyon, Charles, Lovell, Pike (all at their best)

98 forward line that contained: Lyon, Neitz, Schwarz, Farmer, Robertson and a resting Jeff White.

The 98 side was the best Melbourne side I've ever seen. I was too young to remember the late 80s early 90s though.

The '48 win might be a 'stolen' one as well . The Bombers kicked 7.27 to our 10.9 in the 1st 'drawn' Grand Final' . Of course , we won the replay quite comfortably in the end by 39pts .

I can't quite get last Saturday nights win out of my system yet ! It's always nice to rub Essendon's nose in it . They still can't kick straight .
