I can't see how this will "probably" happen. I think it's more likely that we will use our 2nd round pick on him, espeically given our current ladder position/form, and the fact that he's not earmarked as the obvious number 1 and 2 picks in this draft (and it should remaing that way if the MFC have any balls).

Really? Do you think there's really ANY chance whatsoever that we won't take him with our first pick if we have to?

I don't.

And I doubt GWS or GC do either.

My opinion is that "if we have to" would mean that he is tearing the state titles and Casey a new one when he plays. Of course we would take him in that scenario.

The scenario I'm suggesting is that we don't allow this to happen. We have a quiet little word in Jack's ear about how he has KPI's to meet in any games he plays this year, and they should be achieved, not exceeded.

I can't believe we have a chance to basically own this first uncompromised draft for 3 seasons, yet people are wanting us to do the right thing by the league. I say fcuk the league and all other teams. If there is a chance we can get Viney with our 2nd round pick, giving us 3 live selections in the first round, then we do it. This DOES NOT mean we have some secret handshake deal with those teams below us.

What would Sheedy do in our situation? I can't see he or Gubby making special deals with their opposition.

You really think recruiters at all the other clubs are idiots?

So what was the true story regarding $cumbag's knee? Was it that GWS told him to play minimal games and we believed him that his knee was "sore"? Or were we punishing him by not playing him?

The same could be asked about said recruiters believing all of Darling's "faults".

We only need to convince 2 clubs.

Don't shoot the poster....this was a chat.

Ah ... conspiracy theories! Every recruiter in the country knows how good Viney is. We've also let them all know by nominating him F/S with all the associated publicity.

If we are forced to use Viney at #3 and do not take Whitfield or Toumpas instead it would be a mistake

So you'd see the club's reputation for ethical business dealing in tatters (i.e. the commitment to Viney), all for the sake of a minor difference between three players?

Remember that Judd went #3 behind Hodge and Ball.

Imagine Todd making the call not to take Jack with pick three. Or more to the point, being put in that position by the club. Messy.

Fortunately it doesn't matter, because there's no way known we'll renege on our commitment to take Viney the younger if we ever want to be seen as a club to do business with ever again.

Nasher, this is another point I continue to raise. None of us have seen the contract, but surely there is a clause in there regarding where we are to take Jack, just as there would be a get out clause of some type that if Jack were to suffer serious injury that could resrtict his playing ability, that we are able to terminate said contract. Or if there are offield incidents that could tarnish the Club, etc, or if Jack's performance/form/development didn't see him as a genuine first round-type, then we would use our own disgression on where we can select him.

I'm not trying to be a smart ar$e, but there has to be things in place to protect not only the player, but the Football Club also.

I'm totally amazed that I am in the minority on this subject. If Jack is rated in the Top 5 at the end of the season, I'm happy to pick him up at Pick 3, but if other players have come on and he slides to a market value of Pick 10, I'd be livid if we have to use our Pick 3 on him.

The idea of secret deals with GWS and GC stinks in my book. I don't want our Club to have anything to do with them. We should put ourselves in a situation where we don't have to (ie ensure that Jack is not rated as a Top 5 prospect).

Its out of MFC's control. Other teams know we are committed to him so would be negligent not to make us pay for him as they are under no risk by bidding for him.

I would be very surprised if we don't use one of two first round picks on an existing player. Eg Dangerfield, that would help set off the time lost in losing the development put into Scully.

Pretty simple.

We need MIDS, MIDS, MIDS, MIDS and MIDS.

We can't get our hands on the footy. And when we do we turn it over 50% of the time. Stats don't lie.

We have had 100 possessions less than our opposition 4 weeks running. Says it all. Can't do ANYTHING if you don't have the footy.

Because bigfooty phantom drafts are so bloody accurate...

Young Garlett sounds good for a 2nd rounder

Looks good too, but do we really want to recruit Troy Taylor mk II?

Heads up, I replied to this in the Viney thread.

Agreed. If we were to finish 16th this year what picks would we get. i understand it would be something like pick 3, 6 and 9. With out doubt we have to get mids, but mids with classy, speed, agility and hardness. Jack Viney being 1.

When will FA compo picks be able to be used - this year or next year?

I'm not sure all the details are finalised, I can't find any specific info on it. I'd assume it could be used straight away, but that's only my assumption.

But this is a good article from The Age outlining the process. One for the Road.

The AFL has suggested to clubs that they would have perhaps three years in which to utilise a compensation pick (they have five years under the GWS/Gold Coast compensation), but this is yet to be confirmed.

Intereststing to note they will hand out net compensation.

Critically, the AFL will award a club ''net'' compensation for losing or gaining a free agent player. Thus, if St Kilda lost Goddard, but gained another player, the compensation would be based on the difference between the players. If the player gained is judged to be at the same level to the one lost, the relevant club would receive nothing.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
