GAME DAY - Round 1

Featured Replies

Prepare for the BELTING from the media now, cause we STINK

Pretty embarassing second half but its round one and as much as it pains me to say it Neeld does deserve some time.

Will be good to see his response, because if Davey isn't playing at Casey next week I will be shocked.

Mark Neeld has as much to answer for as the players do. One of the worst performances I have ever seen. I am not giving him the honeymoon Bailey got.

Once again too many on here believing (rather simplistically) that change = success

It's going to take more than one pre-season to transform this team into a club.

Patience.

And don't say you've been waiting since '64, because this team is Neeld's team.

No. This team is OUR team. And WE have been waiting since '64.

58 years not enough patience for you?

General question: why do we do this to ourselves?

I don't know if I can anymore. A bad loss to Brisbane. At home. After Jimmy's passing. Gutless effort today. Weak club.

Am I the only one who can't see this game plan working? We spent the whole of Baileys era recruiting excellent running players, We spent the whole preseason running and trimming down. Yet our game plan involves heavy contested possession. Smash it on the boot to a contest and pray that we can win it. Pathetic.

I got your point. Another excuse. Sick of them.

I am deeply offended that you think that I'm using Jimmy's death as an excuse.

I'm going to go with Melbourne were beaten by the emotion of the week. Because if it was not emotion we are in for a long long long season, and i just can't face another one like last year.

I don't know of any positives to come out of todays loss. Magner was great but is now with an ankle injury - hopefully not too bad.

Watts showed some skill and poise....

Nah, eff it.

No positives.

More than our team's performance, the thing that I really dislike is having to now put up with all of these ridiculous comments regarding the coach, the assistant coaches, the game plan and how they are all rubbish... after one game!!!

And to make it worse the backline was in dissaray, it was like none of them have ever played together before.

I look forward to seeing wholesale changes and a lift in effort next week. If I see Davey/Green playing next week I am going to seriously consider giving this up. And before anyone jumps on me saying what kind of supporter are you, I say Football is meant to bring you joy; this team brings me heartache, stress and ill feeling!

Don't try and change it around. That's not what I said.

But saying we've had a tough 2 weeks is an excuse to lose a game we should have not only won on paper, but had a MASSIVE reason to have a crack, is just the same old MFC, and I'm sick of it.

Anybody else sick to death of rebuilding?

Carlton got in Judd to set the bar for their young guns, we got in Mitch Clark, we need to poach an out and out superstar or two otherwise our present rebuild will all be for nothing.

Barely a whimper for Jimmy!

I'm with the "boys' heads not in an ideal place" crowd. Just very very flat.

Emotions hardtack.

Give everyone a break.

Yeah but hardtack, they had a real reason to at least show some heart this week- can you see this turning around anytime soon?

This isn't one effort, it's akin to the straw that broke the camels back in a way.

We know it's round 1- but we were playing an under-strength Brisbane. How are we going to go against a potential finalist??

We are looking at a battle with GWS and Suns for bottom at seasons end. Massively disappointing performance from our boys. Gotta be ashamed of themselves. We are an embarrassment to the city of Melbourne now. Just doesn't get any worse than that sort of crap that the MFC served up today. Pack of wooses.

I'm with you Sloonie. I can't believe its round one and im already looking forward to draft day. What the hell has happened to our backline? Brisbane has had a glory period. Tried to top up. Failed. Rebuilt. Gone past us. Very, very sad day.

Agree,

There was alot of passion going into this game but we need to realise, New coach, players, game plan and its only round one.

As much as my heart is hurting and I'm fuming.

We see now why there is no seniors in the leadership role, as they don't lead.

No. This team is OUR team. And WE have been waiting since '64.

Thats just plain simple stuie.

The club has been waiting for 58 years, not the team.

What about waiting until the team has time to adjust to a new game plan? (one which centres around a forward target since Neitz)

What about allowing an almost completely new coaching group time to work with the players in reaction to what they produce on the field.

Wait for Sylvia to return, Liam to appear, Grimes to get some match fitness after months away from the game. Give the team at least until round 12 until you write them off.

Edited by the fork

Jack Trengove was great today, but a few senior player should have played there last game. Actually a few seniors should have played there last game last year.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
