Well unlike the Australian Cricket Team, players can be traded. So lets just say that i think there will be some blazers out there that wont necessarily be nurtured as much as the ones the cricketers get.

If it were to be worn all the time, then it would be "schoolboyish"., but as a special occasion garment that was only bought out out for premium occasions I think it is OK

i kinda like the idea. every kid growing up playing cricket wants to one day own a baggy green cap. it would be great if the tradition can grow some legs quickly and one day it would be evry kids dream playing auskick to be able to one day own a baggy blazer. this would be dependant on these kids seeing the boys up on stage one september with the premiership year embroidered on the pocket.

it makes me tingle with excitement.

Whether players are traded or moved on or move on they can still choose to remember their time at the MFC will fondness and pride..

This is all a part of the club building its brand and rediscovering its heritage as we go on to write new pages in its history.

I dont mind it as an idea, interesting to see how all others and players view it.

I don't mind it... could give the players more of a sense of "belonging" to a club and its traditions.

BB I find myself in the opposite camp to CS again.

I don't like his idea of "red" and I do not like this blazer idea.

Looks like something we found in a trunk at the back of the store room.

Should have left it there.

Portrays the MFC as something stuck in the past,

Not stuck in the past....rooted in the past. We are after al lthe inventors. I can see it will divide. ftr ..im not a fan of the crimson on the emblem either.. it could have been red :) lol

As another noted if as a keepsake and special occasionthen , yep.. if some sort of new uniform... id pass.

Great idea. I'm no fan of the tracksuit/polo top being worn at club functions or when representing the club in the media, but I suspect players will still be wearing the sponsored gear at most appearances.

I note players will get one blazer when they start. What happens if they grow out of it?

Afraid I agree with you old dee. Surely we have moved on from the 50's and are a more moden club this this???

we might have the mantra as the mt.bulla fans but better that then being seen as a collingwood centerlink bum. nothing wrong with a bit of class i love it.

It's not about moving on from the 50's its about players having a taste of our great history with the game and making there own.

agreed, the stigma is not going away anytime soon so lets embrace it.

I know sometimes i love when my colingwood mates say things like that because i say please stop dont call me rich and classy. much rather have no teeth and complain how long it take to line up in centerlink.

maybe a red and blue Lycra cycling uniform would be more in keeping with the times?

First post after months of following a lot of the discussions as observer.

I am not rooted to the past but am old enough to have my memories which is what inspired me to be a demon supporter.

I am also progressive enough to hope that we can go on to even better success.

We may as well look as professional as we need to be and if the blazer "for special events" with personal highlights added displays a professional approach great. Asnoted above is part of branding of club and can forge greater engagement and hopefully attraction for next generations.

Any idea were I could get one DC?

My current cycling gear is getting a little worn.

With my luck the red would turn out pink or maroon

hard to get a good red these days, plenty of fucshia lycra out there

somehow it just doesn't fit my image of you

I'd like to see red and white striped 'pyjama' blazers with straw boaters

Love it, except for the bit where it looks like a school blazer.

A bit of redesigning, with a simple embroidered MFC intertwined logo, and a thinner contrast binding (Ralph Lauren style), and I'm buying one!

I reckon it's great. Far from being stuck in a bygone era the MFC is leading the way in re-branding and this initiative complements that direction. The MFC is steeped in tradition and recent decisions to embrace such a triumphant history only highlights the fact that our great story has been mothballed for far too long. There are always those that are critical of anything new, so unanimity on this issue is a pipe-dream, but in the main I think it will be well received.

Believe it or not DC before a recent knee injury I was doing about 60 - 70 km a week to try and stay healthy.

I do enjoy it.

Just back on the bike in the last two weeks, put on 4 kg over 3 months off the road.

I know you are baiting me re the boater so no further comment.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
