The end to bruise free football

I loved the aggression last night. It was so much better than last year. Magner will be the first rookie promoted given Neeld's love of grunt players and his successful start in these games. I think the Gys might struggle to find a spot in the side based on the little game time he had, but given how long it's been since he had a real hitout he could surprise me with some more games under his belt. If we inject Magner into the centre square with Molonel and either Bate or Jones, nobody will be calling it buise free anymore.

I disagree on Gysberts - I think he will be huge this year.

Do you think they eased Gys into it just to save him from an injury in those conditions? Or did he play that badly? He might play a full game against pies hopefully.

I honestly think this kid could be a star of the comp, reminds me of Pendlbury a little.

Magner is a little nutter, love his work.

I love the Gys. I think he's a geniune ball magnet and with his height he'll be a huge weapon in the midfield sooner or later. I just think that Neeld will have a big focus on physical play and JG looked like he was still a long way off being able to stand his ground in that department. As I said, he may improve with some games under his belt and win a spot in the side, but I have a feeling that he needs to put on a bit more muscle to be in serious contention.

Cheers mate well here's hoping for him. Do u know if he put on any KGs this summer?? Good point about his height think he's around 190cm

Had to smile when he welcomed Jonathan Brown to the bigtime .

I don't think Gys was a bad as people are saying. He got about 5 clearances I think in the minimal game time he had - in conditions which suited the big boys.

He will be a gem this kid, just needs to build his running capacity over the next few seasons.

Thereare 3 spots available anyway, Spencers , Gawns , and we only have one on the veterans list so there is another spot.

Magner, Nicholson and Couch are certainties.

Couch by the way is being earmarked as a tagger, played on Ablett in the first game , and Black in the second

Gysberts will be fine and will play out most of the season if fit. He will benefit when the likes of Blease and Bail hit the their straps and inject some speed into our midfield. For 2012 I think we need to get right into the congested style of play (As boring as that might be to watch) as we need to master that trade before we can move forward with an attacking game plan. We are not just changing our game plan, we are changing the behaviours and the culture of the MFC including what we want to stand for. It will take time but Sat night we got a taste of it...and I liked it!!!

I loved it when he bumped Brown then got up and bumped him again !!! Phil Read MKII (With more skill I hope).

Yeah , it was terrific to see . Browny looked a bit taken aback as well . It really looked like a few of our blokes were out to impress the coach .

We've done quite well over the years with our rookie's and this bloke was a breath of fresh air with his attack on the ball .

Hoping Magner can go on with it but so far , so good . He had 14 touches over the 2 games which was our 2nd highest . Matty had 24 .

Cheers ®

What I love about Gys is he is pure midfielder. Despite his lack of motor and physicality he knows where and how to play. Give him a few pre seasons and he will be a beauty.

If you had to upgrade one of Magner and Nicholson after last nights performance which would it be?

I wouldn't elevate anyone on last weekends games.

Because one game is not a summer, ah winter, ah, Autumn.

Lets just see some more.

It looks like bruise-free footy might be a horrible memory now but everyone please take a valium. There is no way that Neeld will fill the midfield with only grunt players. We can't fit all of Couch, Magner, Nicho, Moloney, Jones, Sylvia and Bate, into a side that also needs Trengove, Gysberts, Bail, Blease and maybe even Grimes also as a midfielder. Grunt is important, especially considering 2011 but it can never be everything. We need outside runners like Davey, Morton, Blease, Kel Lawrence. Just sit and watch the next 2 NAB Cup games and the preferred Needl team makeup will begin to emerge.

Lets NOT forget WE Played Bruise Free Football for 10 years, prior to 2012. Never ever forget it! Banish It from our Club. We won't banish it buy denying it. Own it & don't let it back.

Based solely on Saturday night's games I think that the elevation would go to Magner. However, based on what I have heard from all the pre-season reports, Nicholson is likely still the front-runner. Luckily we have the flexibility to upgrade both.

Neeld will have quite a decision to make. The remaining NAB games will see the rookies show plenty of ticker and some mongrel too.

I have got to say that out of all three of them fighting for a spot it seems neeld really has a soft spot for couch he did do some good things but i think the other two are ahead in my thinking but just have a feeling that neeld might put couch in one of the spots. but lucky we might have three spots

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
