Final Nominations for PSD & Rookie Drafts

Davis in, Ladson out

Main points:-

• Leon Davis has nominated for Tuesday's pre-season draft but Hawthorn's Rick Ladson is a non-starter.

• Others to lodge nomination forms were Zac Dawson, Tom Collier (Brisbane Lions), Anthony Long (Essendon), and former Magpies teammates John McCarthy and Trent Stubbs.

• GWS had the right to list any previously listed player who nominated and was overlooked in November's NAB AFL Draft before Tuesday's deadline, but chose not to. This group, which includes Brendan Fevola and Andrew Lovett, remain in the pool for the pre-season and rookie drafts.

What has happened to Adam Maric?

On the Permission to Train List at Richmond.

Only Kevin Sheedy.

He's worked out the order he wants and is passing it on to the AFL to be announced officially tomorrow.

Giants lead Pre-Season Draft

We're often told that the  AFL clubs agreed to the new franchise rules. They'll be happy to know they voted in favour of the following pre season draft order when they agreed to this:-

1 - Greater Western Sydney

2 - Greater Western Sydney

3 - Greater Western Sydney

4 - Greater Western Sydney

5 - Greater Western Sydney

6 - Greater Western Sydney

7 - Gold Coast

8 - Port Adelaide

9 - Richmond

10 - Fremantle

11 - Western Bulldogs

GWS did pass on its opportunity to take a number of picks in the national draft so it's only fair they should get the first six picks ahead of the other bunnies clubs with selections in the PSD.

I wonder how spiteful Sheedy will be with his hatred of the Dees. Will he pick the player he thinks we are most likely to go after? I wouldn't put it past him

well if he does then he will never know and we will never know

i'm also sure that choko and grubby keep a certain amount of rein on shoddy. after all his only purpose for being there is to create some publicity (and build his super fund)

I think we are stretching it now. As if he would pick a player they don't want, because we do. Really!

Fair point.

Though I do feel he would get satisfaction in beating us to the punch on anything. But I doubt he would pick someone he didn't want in the process. If it was a toss up between two players I can just imagine him getting a chuckle out of the situation. But sure, it is probably just imagination guided by the selection of Junior who was already retired by a year and the massive overpayment of HWSNBN

How bloody absurd! Why would shoddy even contemplate picking one of our rookies.

Unless he has someone on the Long Term Injury List that can be substituted.

I certainly can't think of anyone.

I think the view that Redleg is referencing are those that think GWS will take the 'train on' players that we believe will be steals before we can claim them.

It's paranoid. It's Melbourne.

Sorry RPFC. I thought you would have seen Redlegs sense of humour.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
