Fair point, and well reasoned.

Martin looked like he was establishing himself as a backman early on, then has had a stint in the ruck, I probably will concede that he could play a role to bring the ball to ground, but just doesn't 'feel' like a natural forward, and the type of player that could punish opposition on the scoreboard. Maybe this is something Leigh Brown can bring out of him given he probably played a similar role in his playing career.

Agree totally with the comment about Aussie, I really hope he can hold his spot on the senior list and get his mind and body right for a solid season of AFL. We do have some great dimensions to our forward line with Petterd, Howe, Jurrah and Watts. Aussie and a big forward body! (although I dont' know where Green fits into the forward line there...)

... still think Lisle could offer something though ;)

My premiership forward line would look like this;

HF - Jurrah Watts Tapscott

F - Gawn Martin Aussie/Davey/Jetta

* Petterd and Howe would be on the bench and would rotate HFF as Tappy rotates through the guts.

* I still believe Aussie can become the small forward we need, but time's ticking sorry.

Martin is an improvement on PJ as a marking forward - that's about the best I can say about him. He did actually take some nice overhead marks last year but as yet he's not going to command the attention of the opposition key stopping tall defender. He may evolve into this - if we don't trade for a KPF we'll be relying on him to.

Interesting.... just curious is that something that you see us obtaining when? 2013? or further out?

I don't think we can be considered a contender for at least another three years personally.... that being the case my premiership forward line would be

HF Jurrah Watts Howe

F Jamar (as 2nd Ruck) Cook/Lisle/ ??Small

Don't really have a lot of certainty about the FF line yet tbh.

You would imagine that Watts will take the best defender. I still have great belief that he will develop in to our best forward, and will play more time in the F50 than out of it. That said, I would expect Martin to take the 2nd defender, resting ruck will get the 3rd, ehich means Jurrah gets the 4th. However, if you don't believe Martin gets the 2nd best, from a Demons point of view I'm stoked with that!

We'll use the Geelong defence as a math-up. Watts v Taylor, Scarlett v Martin, Jamar/Gawn v Lonergan. I'd be isolating Lonergan in the goal square if that were the case.

I have no bloody idea when our time will be! You would think given the teams above us, and where we are at, it would be minimum 2014. BUT...if we can get that midfield sorted, and I have no doubt they will be targeting someone in trade week, there's nothing to say that we can't do a 2008-Hawthorn in 2013. Our backline is fine, and I believe we have the cattle for our forward line (especially when I'm not taking Cook, Fitzpatrick or even Troy Davis in to consideration).

I think Howe or Petterd will fight for that HFF role for a long time. Howe has that Stevie J X-factor that I'm not sure if Petterd has, but, as we've seen, Petterd can kick bags against weaker defenders.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
