The AFL Mini Draft

Who cares.  Bigger fish to fry at the moment ...

There's plenty of time post season for that stuff.

Wrong. The early bird gets the worm and I believe the club should be looking closely at the mini draft. There are four All Australian Under 18s among the nominations and Jaeger O'Meara looks like a very good prospect. With the uncertainty about Tom Scully and the possibility of additional draft picks and players available for trading means we are in with a chance to claim a top notch youngster for our list.

We should never take our eyes off the ball when it comes to recruiting.

These are the players who nominated by yesterday's 2pm deadline:

Chase Bower (Norwood, SA), Adam Carter (South Fremantle, WA), Brad Crouch (North Ballarat Rebels, Vic), Dayle Garlett (Swan Districts, WA), Brodie Grundy (Sturt, SA), Matthew Haynes (Northern Knights, Vic), Riley Hutchinson (East Perth, WA), Emmanuel Irra (South Adelaide, SA), Ben Kennedy (Glenelg, SA), Aaron Loccon (Norwood, SA), Sean Lynch (South Fremantle, WA), Todd McKay (South Adelaide, SA), Jaeger O'Meara (Dongara/ Railways, WA), Jonathan O'Rourke (Calder Cannons, Vic), Jason Pongracic (Dandenong Stingrays, Vic), Mason Shaw (South Fremantle, WA), Josh Simpson (North Adelaide, SA), Jake Stringer (Bendigo Pioneers, Vic), Shannon Taylor (Claremont, WA), Jimmy Toumpas (Woodville West Torrens, SA), Nick Vlastuin (Northern Knights, Vic), Matt Wallis (Norwood, SA), Laine Wilkins (Peel Thunder, WA), Daniel Williamson (Norwood, SA), Christopher Yarran (Perth, WA).

IMHO ... I reckon Fremantle, Port & now Adelaide are in the box seat to get these kids.

1/ Fremantle to lose Palmer ... CP going back to GWS

2/ Port maybe to do a deal on pick 4 ... puts GWS in a strong seat with picks 1,2,3,4,5

3/ Adelaide have lost Davis ... CP going back to GWS (only a 50/50 at this stage)

4/ Keep 1 pick up their sleeve for the following year.

Essentially then GWS lose kids they would never have taken because of the go home factor ie 1 x WA kid and 2 x SA kids

GWS would also become the "default power broker" in every deal in 2011 where clubs cant agree ... massive "leverage" position for them to be in.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
