If anyone has to question them selves or other supporters about what the club stand for you can fark off right now. This is a [censored] time but if your worth your salt you stand up cop the crap and keep supporting. It wont allways be like this . Poor old Jimmy is fighting for his life and has to front up and deal with all this. We stand for plenty and if you cant see it or have to ask then [censored] off....

EGD you are shooting the messenger, I heard Smith most of what he said is correct IMO.

Look at our performances this year, every time we play a team that is half reasonable we get belted.

We show no spirit or determination we are down hill skiers.

I do agree leave Jim out of all this.

At the risk of offending you. you have not answered the question.

Saying we are 150 years old does not answer the question.

I am just as committed as you but that does not mean i have to agree with everything the clubs does.

What does the club stand for?

Well lets see how many of those 37,000 people turn up.

Sadly, for you ....all you fall back on is our "150 year old history" ... that stands for nothing in a AFL competition.

It means nothing to the kids of today. We are not relevant. To get this you have to listen to the kids 8-12 YO ... next to none of them barrack for us. Playgrounds around the nation are baron of Melbourne jumpers on "Footy Days"... Ozkick is a lonely place for Melbourne kids.

The same as any other Victorian club...It is part of your family Old Dee...what else can it be. 37.000 members love seeing the Demons win.

What are you doing here then if you cant see anything worthwhile in the club you supposedly barrack for chimp ? If this is the case for you i suggest you follow some one else.

No look at the other Victorian clubs

Collingwood - one eyed commitment ... you go rain hail or shine

Carlton - ruthless ... do what it takes to get the job done

Essendon - once in you never get out its like a tattoo

Richmond - passion to the core

North - Shine boners us against them

Hawthorn - family club

Saints - sexy, playboy fun

Bulldogs - working class western suburbs

Melbourne - Its VFL history?

I heard Patrick Smith this morning.

Patrick Smith then went on to say that Matthew Knights would be a good option as a replacement for Bailey because he is an experienced coach.

Patrick Smith stopped being relevant a very long time ago

That is seriously laughable. Just rattling off the cliches and stereotypes. Surely you would add in going to the snow, cheering for "number 5" and driving a four wheel drive as what Melbourne is known for according to your logic.

You dont get it do you ... you wont have a football club shortly if you dont change. If we dont want to change with all due respect it should be those who dont want to change who should leave now. We then will no longer be held back with boat anchor attitudes.

We must move forward ... we must be relevant to the next generation.

Are you for real? " Saints sexy playboy fun" HAHAHA . What a joke! Most of the points you raise about what these other clubs stand for are due to their supporters. Take a leaf out of it ie Collingwood go rain hail or shine. Essendon once in you never get out. Apply this attitude to the team you support !

Yes its laughable to you ... because the penny just wont drop for many Melbourne supporters whether its Tom Scully or what our club stands for ... NOTHING.

Its 2011 deal with it. Grow some balls. Move on deal with it ... its a national AFL game that we compete in.

We need to be relevant to the next generation ... we need to listen to them. We have already lost one generation ... we have no choice.

Alternative ... is a slow death or the AFL will put us out of our misery.

I hate saying this I wish so bad it was not the case, but we have to deal with facts. The game has moved, we are struggling big time with it.

Mate I agree with 90% of what he said.

What do we stand for?

I am not sure.

He also said we are a club of nice guys who don't stand up and fight.

I have been saying this for some time.

some one on here suggested we should send back our scarfs in protest and was howled down.

Mine was posted today.

So the question is what do we stand for? And you have given up and posted your scarf off?

What a great way to show how YOU stand up and fight. The club needs OUR passion more then ever and i'll be there next week to show I won't give up on this club. Bloody hell a crap day just got worse after reading your post.

Might sound like a joke ... but this attracts some people its fun. Sex sells if you hadn't noticed .... ahhhhh penny dropped yet.

We are a serious bunch of old conservatives that want to bore the kids with our "history" .... mate thats the joke ... but its no laughing matter.

So if our list and new coach who ever it maybe all comes together and we end up being succesful in the next few years will we still be irrelevent? It all comes down to winning mate not airy fairy statements about cliches of clubs.

Just out of interest, what does this statement 'stand for something' even mean? For instance what does a club like Essendon 'stand for'?

Just sounds like a bit of old cliched [censored] if you ask me. We have 37,000 members, most of whom who are extremely passionate about this club. I know for a fact this club means a hell of a lot to a hell of a lot of people. Patrick Smith can go do one as far as I am concerned.

You have my vote on both counts "hangon"

I know no one who is under 35 who is a supporter, now I know there are people much young than that.

I was not able to persuade my daughter to become a Dee 20 years ago in spite of my best efforts.

At the age of 32 she follows the bombers because she says they are winners and appeal to her.

Also she feels the territorial thing with Essendon, we live in the North.

The Dees are a conservative bunch of people living in the past.

Her view not mine.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
