I'm waiting for the first thread suggesting we could look at Connors.

ooh....ooh...can we ...can we !!!!!!

Think it has already been suggested.

Yeah, in the Martin & Connor thread, Nasher said something along the lines of "We should definitely draft Connor".

After observering The changes over the last couple of weeks I have come to the conclusion that at the 6th July some players have had there papaers stamped.

It appears to me that Morton, Green, Couch, Gysberts, Davey and Petterd are stamped as gone or up for trade at the end of 2012 so lets play other people between now and the end of the year.

All below happens in the light of a 10 Goal defeat last week.

Davey is injured for one week and comes back via Casey ( after I think his best game of the year in game Vs GWS )

Green Cannot get a game when we have no forwards

Couch Upgraded before the season starts plays numerous good games at Casey but cannot get a game at senior level

Gysberts Has been back playing at Casey for some weeks but not selected when we are desperate for mid field players

Petterd Similar to Green been back from injury for a month now, we are desperate for forwards but cannot get a game

Morton We lose two talls through Injury and put in a short guy (who,s form has been poor) in preference to a tall player

Looks bad for these guys

Am I imagining too much?

What do you all think?

You speak sage words there O-D Konobi !!

I really have no idea old dee. this has been a really weird and confusing year.

i have been baffled many times by selection and struggle to see a pattern

we are riddled with players whose development goes backwards or just stagnates

not to mention the huge number of injuries and injuries that seem to go on forever

this would have to be the most depressing year of the last 5 - so little light at the end of the tunnel

end of rant....pass the stilnox pls

Davey is contracted for another year IIRC, Gysberts is coming back from a broken jaw which last time I looked is a hell of an injury to get over. Last week he appeared short of a run and was more involved in the last qtr. He needs more game time to regain confidence and importantly form before being considered. My guess is Gysberts will be considered soon enough.

As for the others I do wonder about Petterd, I see others in front of him for the time being. What's disappointing for me is he hasn't progressed as I'd hoped for, to me he showed signs of being a dangerous forward/half forward. He has put it together on occassions but they're as rare as hens teeth.

I feel Green's career is coming to a close at year's end. For Morton, I think it's up to him for the remainder of the season re: his future. He must take on board what is required; if he is left at Casey for the next several weeks, they may be stamped.

Couch I wouldn't have thought would be going anywhere just yet.

You really do have to wonder. Green ; is that someone knocking at your door ? Davey.....sigh. Still year to go...but go where ?

Im sure Neeld would salivate at an up and fit Gysberts...card not punched yet. Morton...or is that just mort ! Kid is frustration personified . Couch , probably keep out of curiosity for next year. And so it goes on....and on......and.....

And we still get nowhere . So there will have to be some change for change sake just to change the mix and so hopefully the results .

I think you're imagining far too much with Gysberts. He's been back two weeks after a broken jaw, after being injured last year, and is a first-round draft pick who's played 18 games.

Agree.

Petterd and Morton are the curious ones, though Petterd doesn't look really fit and Morton may be getting some changes to his game sought.

I know Couch has played some good footy, but the last game I saw him play against Sandy he was pathetic.

I would agree Dc in fact I doubt we have had a year this bad since the 70's and we still has 40% of the year to go.

It could easily go down as the worst year since 64!

Yes he did not play well against Sandy redleg but neither are about 10 in the senior team this year.

May be maurie but his form before the injury was poor and he could not get a gig at senior level when we were getting belted in the first few games and had no mid field players.

I would be surprised if he was dropped off the list.

IMO he had a good first year and then it has been very lean since then.

Just seems to be a player that has not look good under Neeld.

Might have been all due to injury or my imagination I just wonder

1981 would beg to differ.

Won one game by one point.

Thanks for reminding me Dr

I knew as soon as I typed 70's some would remind me of a crap year after then.

We have so many options!

The thing that annoys me the most about 2012 Dr. is we are in year 5 of a five year rebuild and have gone nowhere.

Still the easy beats of the competition, still effectively last but no first draft pick

Not that they seem to have helped much.

Oh well there is always the next decade to be great again

Perhaps 2020's will be our period

Well hopefully Neeld can do what RDB almost did for a 6th time, and drag this club, kicking and screaming, to a premiership!

Enjoy. Was just looking at a top I bought and it came from Banana Republic.

I am going to miss these bananas so much when back in Melbs. I find our mass produced bananas very bland.

The way we dispose of the ball, you would think we are slipping on banana skins.

Indeed - 2/10 skills - 2/10- footy smarts 8/10 bananas @ $2kg

I hate to admit this publicly, but I have gone into drafting mode and want us to finish no higher on the ladder at all costs.

Redleg you say that as if we had a choice there is no chance we will finish higher that 3 last if fact I think there is a good chance we will finish second last.

looked at the fixture again today and the only side I think we are capable of beating is GCS

Based on last two weeks form the second GWS game is 50/50. GWS get to play GCS again they will almost certainly beat them.

A win against us and we are level on three wins each

Add the beltings we are going to get from Saints, Freo twice and North melbourne we could easily slip below GWS's percentage

It truely mistifys me how we choose so many players who cannot kick to position and who want to hand ball to each other while standing a metre apart standing still.

Won't happen. We are a chance to go up not down. We are 3 wins behind Port including percentage. 1 more win behind the dogs. If we lose to Port we are probably going to stay where we are.

Awful to talk like this and I hope it is the last year that I do. However we need every draft position advantage possible to resurrect our sh-t midfield and small forward situation.

I would have said bloody tragic Redleg and I doubt it is mate.

We have more problems than can be fixed in one years draft / trading period.

Sadly it will probably 2014 before we get out of the bottom half dozen.

I think the period 2008 - 2011 has been largely wasted.

Not a lot to show for all those early picks.

Ahh the life of a Dees supporter.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
