Is that a serious question? I was just pointing out that we will have some unhappy players in the group. If that unhappiness manifests itself in form or attitude or behaviour it will need addressing, that is my point.

And I was just pointing out that whatever the choice the club makes, someone will feel disappointed at missing out. I agree ... you make the decision, then the fallout depends on how you deal with the disappointments, and the maturity of the players.

Maybe some players will appreciate the ability just to concentrate on their football and not be burdened with responsibility ... even past leaders. It's not all negative for the non-leaders.

Don't forget Flash, who carries the indigenous leadership hopes and was suggested by many to be Captain last year.

Redleg I think Davey is at the end.

his injury list is mounting.

He has slowed a little and that was his big strength.

give him a hard tag and he is useless.

I hope I am wrong but I see him spending a lot of time at Casey this year.

I think our premiership success does not depend on the happiness of Green, Davey, Rivers and Moloney.

But we won't win a flag without Grimes, Trengove, Frawley and Garland.

Footy is like any other competitive industry, people lose out, people get fired, and people have to put up with it.

The players who are no longer in the leadership group have clearly done something wrong. Jones and Grimes made it through 2011 because they displayed outstanding leadership in tough times. The other 4, didn't.

A small forward role beckons if he is up to it. The ball is squarely in Flash's court to earn it .......... which is exactly how it should be!

I agree. Grabbing it off the pack and kicking the snap goal was his start. Hopefully he still has that ability.

Does anyone know what Davey's injury is?

He has had a few leg injuries over the last 3 years.

Made a spelling mistake thought I had better correct it before BH got on to me.

No it was not Davey

Couldn't agree more O.D. The Cricket has been dull as dish water this summer, no offence to the Australians but India wanted to go home very early (Tanking for what!!)

Bring on the Sherrin...

went to the T20 last night; as Marsh trudged off after his 2 ball duck my 7 year old leant over and said " dad...Marsh is in a world of pain" loved it, totally unprompted and on the money. He is like Chappell G without the superb career that had gone before.

On that basis OD, I should be the second last person to be wishing my life away, but I'm with you 100% old fella! I think I even detect a hint of anticipation / excitement in your post about the coming season, which is great to see.

Yes there is a little creeping in Deeoldfart.

Usually starts around this time of the year.

Based on past disasters I try and keep a lid on it

By May I am usually well and truely depressed.

Perhaps a change this year????

He is lucky he does not come from Victoria or he would have been dropped a month ago.

Then again if he was from NSW he would have another 3 months to go.

Anyone notice the article in todays Hun about which team has the hardest draw?

Well, guess what according to the Article the Dees have the easiest.

It is based on which teams you play twice and travel.

So we had better have a reasonable year.

Considering the MFC travels more than any other victorian side..that article is a complete waste of time O.D. what a beat up/

I am confident we have had this discussion before wyl.

The travel thing IMO is grossly over played.

WCE travel a lot more than other teams .

When they have had good sides they win flags.

When they have had not so good sides they do not.

Just an excuse for poor results.

End of the story for me.

Possibly...but the MFC doesn't have the easiest draw in the season...that is a lie.

i still expect finals this year.

How do you come to that conclusion wyl?

Seems to me we have one of the better ones.

Not saying it is necessarily the easiest but looks fairly good to me.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
