Realistic = Too much warm cocoa makes you pee at night.

And a few (hopefully celebratory) wines, bubblys or beers will do the same, but then again, unfortunately for those of us blokes old enough to remebmer "the glory days" the ageing prostate can do the same on it's own accord unaided!

If I don't post again today you will know I am at Woollies.

Unfortunately, the problem with that song is that you actually can understand the words.

If I'm reading you correctly WJ, you would be hoping that Freddie has a bit more substance than Chubby's song, if we go down the path of drafting him on Tuesday.

Yeah ... exactly.

It's significant to note jayceebee31's pronouncement on The Freddie Clutterbuck Thread on the JT Board, that Freddie's recruitment to the MFC is unfortunately not going to happen. JCB's sources are usually impeccable and this means we'll thankfully be deprived of the entire genre of Checkeresque music that caused havoc with the youth of the early 1960s. This a good thing for all of us.

There are those who maintain that the dance crazes of the Twist and the Clutterbuck were the catalysts for the unhealthy drug culture of the latter half of the 1960s (and possibly Melbourne's long decline which commenced at that very time). I think there's something in that theory. After all, who could ever forget the euphoric days after the release of "Let's Clutterbuck Again Like We Did Last Winter"?

There were abundant danger signs in Checker's mystical lyrics, "Do the Clutterbuck, if you cannot get a kick" and "Run and run all day, That is how we play," that served to presage the insouciance of our playing list circa 1965/6. In other words, from then on, we were "Clutterbucked" as a football club.

The only antidote to this curse is to get rid of players with overweight parents, make good choices in the rookie draft and feed the team with cheap bananas and, in that respect (thanks to those who have contributed to this thread) we're making good progress.

Thanks, now I know why the rookie draft is so important to the club.

Finally the penny drops.

Wow. I had never attributed our decline to Chubby and the 1960's dance crazes. My careful analysis had always led me to the conclusion that it had something to do with Rise and Fall of Flingel Bunt by the Shadows: http://youtu.be/g9SSw6o3sOY but I now realise that I had the era wrong, and Fungel Bunt never had anything to do with the Dees. Thanks for setting me straight Jack!

Sadly, Norm Smith decided that Mr. Bunt didn't have the necessary attributes to make it onto our list and sent him back home after just three training sessions.

Oh my god 17 hours and 12 minutes to go I am not sure how I will get to sleep tonight.

Warm cocoa before bed!

To end the year on a high we must pick Clutterbuck!

I see only good thinks from that name on our list.

who cares if he can play we need that name.

According to the Big Blue Book, there were 2 hit versions of 'The Hucklebuck' in Melbourne in the '60s.

Chubby Checker's version went to No 4 in the Summer of 60/61.

The legendary Brendon Bowyer did a cover in 1965 that got to No 7.

I'm too young to remember the Chubby Checker version.

3 hours. Oh the excitement. The highs, the lows. The congratulations, the recriminations. Better than the last day of a Australia v New Zealand test match.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
