Every game was on saturday afternoon, including windy hill, fitzroy, Arden street, the lake oval, footscray, hawthorn, Collingwood at collingwood and I think Richmond moved to the MCG in 65.

And if my memory is correct they used to televise the last quarter of games live.

And that is not to forget the night GF series played at South Melbourne, if they kicked the ball too high it went out of site.

I seem to remember the Dees winning a couple of those.

I can handle not going to most of those old grounds, so somethings do improve over time.

Saw Bobby Bright perform in Williamstown just a few years back - still a great entertainer, had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Top bloke too.

The Purple Hearts, The Valentines (Bon Scott's first band I believe), The Mixtures and on it goes. Discos like Thumping Tum, Box Hill and Ringwood Town Halls (fight night at the disco) etc etc.

Also of note were cult acts such as the Missing Links, the Purple Hearts, The Wild Cherries, The Creatures and the Throb, who had only limited success at the time but whose 'heavier' sound would exert a significant influence on later bands like The Saints.

I suppose The Seekers and Rolf Harris don't count?

1964 was the year of the century. We lived two blocks from the MCG on Powlett St and the weather girl from Channel 9 boarded upstairs. Graham Kennedy was an occasional visitor to the house. And the other Chinese student boarder used to keep live lobsters in the bathtub. Plus we had fire crackers to play with and a premiership. Life was never the same after 64.
