On hot dry days like this you realise how totally over rated and over crowded this collection of traffic we call Melbourne is,

Does liveability take in sprawl, wasted time and expensive basic food?

The Corporations have it sewn up.

I know I'm venting but what a hole.

Agree , most over rated city in the world. All marketing and spin. Heading all one way. Down. Have been living away this year and you suddenly realise that Melbourne is becoming unaffordable and unliveable with the city ruled by developers, corrupt politicians and local councils and a dog eat dog mentality amongst the mob. Exciting city, no, dysfunctional, yes. It is becoming a city with no kindness or heart.  It is a city losing its soul. It is a city dictated by real estate, how to make a quick buck, poverty and desperation. Sorry, it has good coffee and food. As If we need more coffee and food. The only redeeming feature is the MFC. And this web site.

And Fitzroy, an oasis in the dysfunctionality I say!

It's caused a lot of pain but where would we be without it.

Well Biff, even though the Greeks invented s ex, it was the Italians who introduced women to the concept.

Yes there are ghettos of decency where people care and there is a strong sense of community.

Romsey is the place Ernie. I care for myself and exploit the community as much as possible.

PD think about it. He can't be right because without women there would have been no Greeks and for that matter no Romans or Italians to introduce women to the concept of you know what.

i am glad you have contentment at Romsey Uncle but how do the local community feel? Although I suppose your needs are very specific and the local yokels are quite suitable. My guess is that it's very much a case of Stockholm Syndrome.   I think Snowtown also sounds quite pleasant. Or even Wantirna!

Maybe even Borewood.

Nah, just joshin'.

Can it be a coincidence that if you take 'sy' out of Romsey you get 'Rome'?

I think the difference may be that Rome is the home of classical antiquity and as all Demon fans would know is actually called Roma in Latin.  Suspect that Romsey will never be known as the eternal city or be regarded as one of the birthplaces of Western civilisation, let alone attract tourists other than poor unfortunates that find themselves off the beaten track by listening to Siri. God help them if they find a hand painted sign post to Romsey manor.  They will find a bed but not one for rest.  Having said that I had forgotten that The Vatican City is also located in Roma and currently is the residence of Georgie Porgy Pell. By comparison Uncle and Romsey Manor may be a better place for an overnight stay.

Ernest, you are letting the side down, mate. Surely Greece is the home of classical antiquity! The Romans certainly had the world domination part down pat, having learned from the downfall of Alexander the Wog, and were handy at engineering, all things military, and building arches on every second corner. But when it comes to counting or calendars or democracy, I am sorry, but they suck.

Perhaps the Vatican in the time  of the Borgias might be more in keeping ... :)

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.
