I had a delicious banana daiquiri at El Floridita Hotel today with Ernest. He wasn't there in body but he was in spirit. Plenty of bananas in Cuba and they do taste sweet. I can see a business opportunity here, bananas and guava paste, not sure what we can off load on them in exchange though, perhaps some of our marketing gurus to convince them of their need for some superfluous stuff they haven't got?

Good to see so many of you treating the banana with the respect it deserves.

I have just started my annual fitness kick, to get my body in shape for the coming season. It hasn't worked for the last several years, but you can only try.

The diet will kick in too. I will have my banana smoothies made with skinny milk from now on. May have to give up on the banana splits and sundaes though.

The Provendor next door makes a delightful mango smoothie. As good as a meal. They do a berry milkshake and will see if they can come up with a Raspberry and Blueberry version.

Also very sorry to read of Jazza's passing. As a greater observer than contributor I always enjoyed his comments and observations.  Many of his references struck home with me reminding me of glories past chasing the elusive waves down Johanna way and my formative years at the back end of the cow. What a pity he has only seen the beginning of the resurgence. May his memory stimulate us all.

I have never got into Mango smoothies. Don't mind a mango juice, but not as a smoothie.

Tom Elliot spoke to woman involved in Martin saga: Not happy with way case handled by AFL. Feels AFL wants her to water down her version.

What a stuff up. Sylvester (Police) has already said the way it's been handled is a disgrace.

Unbelievable. How unprofessional.

Absolutely, I can't think of a more open, transparent or values driven organization that leads by example. The role model sporting organization for the sporting world. Even WADA is now taking note and may even revise protocols to deal with other organizations like the AFL  Gil and his staffers have contributed in such a way that they will never be forgotten. However, their career path may have plateaued!  They may have future careers in the values driven world of sports media.

Gil might be looking for a job at FIFA.

If that fails it's Polo-the peoples game.

No need to go overboard, Redleg. Pre-season training can be brutal enough without extremes like this ... :)

well he does qualify as it's rear !!!

If anyone has the slightest doubt that the AFL says one thing and do another just read the article in todays Hun.

The woman who was threatened  claims the AFl tried to down graded what she said.

At one stsge they said to her this could end his career.

Then after four hours presented her with a statement to sign that contained changed elements from what she had said.

She would not agree to the statement.

Then add the RFC making statements about they are worried about Dustin.

Deliver us from these hypocrites.

I never had the doubt OD

The afl is run by moral bankrupts whose currency is corruption and philosophy is hypocrisy.

It's a scandal in an of itself.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
