I played a lot of cricket at Sparks Reserve.

Played cricket there a few times against East Box Hill CC if I remember correctly BBO. The ground surface had more silt than grass sometimes. I grew up in the area and can remember when the flood retarding basin was built in the mid 60's.

Massive changes coming to the Bok Hill skyline in the near future. Along with the new ATO 20 storey building just finished, there will be 3 new buildings at something like 36 storeys, 33 storeys and 25 storeys in the next few years, above the station and on Whitehorse Road. Going to look like one of those satellite business districts in Tokyo.

Earl, have you ever thought about expanding your fruit horizons? Branching out and trying something new? I hear kiwiberries are the new hipster thing. Correct me if I am wrong.

Good idea Maple. I know my quinoa crop has been a failure so far. I thought living on the fifth floor and facing north near the Fitzroy Swimming Pool was a pretty good approximation for the climate conditions around Lake Titicaca in Bolivia but I could have miscalculated this one. It might be time to move onto these kiwi berries.

Been tippling a bit too much of the fermented maple, Mable?

Unfortunately not. Was a case of walking and typing on my phone at the same time. I have now corrected my error.

Back in the days of the 20 ball over?

Please don't walk through the small archives of my sporting glory and destroy the memories of my youth with your casual ,hurtful and damaging comments.

Small ground actually.

Enjoyed a luxury cruise on Lake Titicaca not that many years ago. I recall purchasing some trinkets from poor people who lived on floating haystacks. I don't think they could afford quinoa.

You're very lucid today Biffen. What happened to your usual Sunday drug overload?

Was a bit broke so I had to "return"a few items to Bunnings.

Tough times in the City.

BBO, noticed that you have changed your signature line to Bitterer. Anything to do with the weekend's game? Or are the lads being uncooperative?

Simple overarching autobiographical statement really.

.....for a tree changer.

Funny you should say that. One Saturday evening while rehydrating in the dressing rooms there was a gigantic Melbourne thunderstorm. After about half an hour you could have floated "Proud Mary" on Sparks Reserve. The water was halfway up the goalposts.

Sparks was an integral feature of the stormwater drainage system for that area.

Sparks Reserve always turned into a lake as soon as a light shower drifted over the eastern suburbs. It's part of a drain system, as you mentioned. The Box Hill oval wasn't much better in its day. I played footy at the Surry Hill ground which was elevated, but forever a muddy bog May - August. The club's social bar was a bad influence for a 16 yr old after the game!

Moons, Surry Hills played in Demon jumpers didn't they?

moonie, it's hard to remember a ground that wasn't muddy (or in bad condition) in winter in those days

it makes one wonder how skilled those were who could reliably kick a drop-kick or heaven forbid a stab pass

Correct Earl. Woolen (in my day) demons jumpers, on a wet day it was like a heavy coat

So, back to the price of bananas ... I tried reading the Adam Goodes thread, but after the first 12 pages it got almost as depressing as the ones about the game on the weekend ...:wacko:

Don't think I have tried the yellow fingers variety (and for that matter, I don't think I have seen bananas for sale that were not yellow).

Que Deefrog!

Afraid of change, Frogger? Or are you still bitter about that fish bait comment?

Never been a big fan of change for change sake. When your on a winner, stick with it!

Not into any sort of blood sports which includes fishing and frog killing.

on second thought they may have been called "lady finger" bananas

Depends where you buy them OD. Any banana purchased at an Asian market is better (sadly) than anything you will buy in oz.

I like mine fairly ripe Bbo.

With most fruit yes I know they are not fruit if they are picked ripe they taste much better.

Apricots bought in a shop are terrible because they are picked green.

Straight off my tree they are wonderful.
