Have to be looking to move them on.

Don't know their contract status for certain, but if they are contracted and find no love out in the market - who the frack do we delist?

I got nothing.

McDonald might be the one squeezed out and looking for a new club already.

Tom? Presuming you mean Macdonald. He'd be very stiff if he got the chop.

Agreed. My heart sank when I saw that they were both apparently contracted. Makes Harrington and friends' job that much harder.

Hard to be sympathetic with them when surely it was Harrington and co. who signed them in the first place?

It will be borderline embarrassing if we are forced to delist players like Maric, Wonaeamirri and/or Blease simply because we are forced to contractually keep Bate and Dunn.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Prendergast? I thought Harrington was relatively new.

No chance, he is so versatile that the club would be sure to hold on to him. I'd definitely give Fitzpatrick the flick over McDonald.

Agree with that.

Which makes the whole situation so unfavourable. I mean, who wants to see Fitzpatrick go and Bate/Dunn stay?

Prendergast is recruitment, Harrington is list management.

This falls under Harrington's responsibility.

You might not think that these 2 would be players that GWS would want, but who'd have thought GC would take and be playing Danny Stanley?

Both Dunn and Bate are capable of being competitive at AFL level, they just have failed to do it consistently or often enough.

I still think it will not be a problem as the rookie list will be abolished, meaning Campbell, Newton & McNamara / Johnstone will be enough.

I don't see how the AFLPA could sign a new CBA without looking out for the interests of its many rookie players who earn well below what they should.

The pay issue isn't about increasing the rate of the high-end contracts.

Thanks Artie, I wasn't certain on that one.

I think it's fair to have offered Bate and Dunn 2 year contracts at the time.

Their form deserved it and our alternatives were still in the early stages of development.

We were always going to have a problem making delistings with our glut of young talent.

The impending changes to the rookie list should help that.

Also, try signing a player that age, showing form, to a 1 year deal.

See what their reaction is.

It also doesn't inspire any feeling of loyalty of the playing group towards the club.

We have essentially chosen culture over a small list management problem.

Of course, how silly of me. Cheers.

Still doesn't change the fact that we may now find ourselves in the awkward and unfortuante situation of having to keep Bate and Dunn on our list, totally undeservedly, whilst letting go of younger and possibly better or more promising players.

If we package em up and send them to GWS it counts as 2 of the 3 right? I would say the club will attempt to [censored] them for whatever they can get. Possibly Warnock as well, although I think he probably has some more value to MFC than either of those two now.

You will find 3 names from our club may be offered around come trade time Bate, Warnock and Maric. I know one club that would consider Warnock where he can play with his brother, Carlton need another key defender and I think if the right trade can be done he will get there. I would accept a second round pick for Warnock and our fourth round pick.

Bate and Dunn are good players too have just like Matty Warnock. May not be best 22 at the moment however they could play a role in the event of injury, such as earlier in the year. Bate should be watching his back while Dunn will be a little more comfortable. Nothing to investigate for now for a new home for Lynden "Clueso" Dunn.

Who are we going to delist?

Warnock.

That is all.

I want to keep the kids because they look like becoming something over and above Bate and Dunn.

Honestly, if we lose McDonald or Fitzpatrick because people thought Warnock 'was good cover' and they end up being champions I will come around to your house and swear at you if you complain about losing them.

*And that is 'you' in the abstract, not you.

Tom McDonald signed a standard 2 year contract. Contracted until the end of next year. He's not going anywhere.

Personally I think Maric should get another year but it isn't looking good for him. He's not getting a game. Even though Wonna is no longer competing for his spot.

Warnock will ask for a trade.Rumours late last year was that he was unhappy not getting a game in the seniors. He is getting less this year than last. Someone will bite if we give him away for a third round pick. Edit: Just found out that he might be out of contract. If that's the case he can leave for nothing. This is also fine by me.

OK, just to confirm: Bate and Dunn (along with Bail and Strauss) did in fact sign contracts last year taking them through to the end of 2012. So they are contracted for next year.

Edit: Also, unless anyone knows more, this article suggests that Wonaeamirri, Maric and Morton, along with Sylvia, Grimes and Martin, are out of contract at the end of this year.

From the 2009 draft Fitzpatrick or Gawn are yet to be signed. Oh and apparently, Scully doesn't have a contract for next year either. Not sure if anyone was aware of that ;)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
