A quick observation regarding GRUBBY Allen and Damien Barrett's performance last night. Tom and his management team have denied any 'official' contact with GWS.

So if you were GRUBBY Allen and you wanted to get a message to Tom and his management, why not use a set-up interview with Damien Barrett. He agrees to do an interview with Barrett on the condition that Barrett deliberately leaks the rumour that they have offered Scully $7mil for 6 years.

There is absolutely no guarantee that the rumour is true, But GRUBBY is clever. The rumour doesn't come from his lips; it puts the figure of $7mil out in the open, and it waves a flag to players at all AFL clubs - 'if Scully knocks that back, then there's plenty to go around'.

He's a [censored] stirrer. He did this during the Buckley saga at Brisbane, and he's the source of the Scully rumours. Message to Tom - beware - if you lie down with dogs you wake up with fleas.

Jack on Game Day just said that he's 9.5 out of 10 'sure' that Tom Scully would stay a Dees player. Further, he stipulated that a group plays for success and premierships and he said if Tom gets paid a little bit more at Melb, he 'wouldn't care'

He is such a well spoken kid, he's got leadership written all over him and handled Robbo's loaded questions with aplomb.

Lingy said that Jack's tackle was 'magnificent'

I just copied this from the Jack Trengove thread

Should have said he was "98% sure".

Lets hope he stays, realistically Melbourne can offer him around 600-650k per year, if GWS are doubling that and offering a 6 year contract then ask yourself, what would you do? I would be uncomfortable offering a contract of that length in our game. No amount of threads will influence what happens, ride it out and time will tell.

Maybe by year 3 he would be worth 600+. Really he would be worth 350+ next year, maybe 450 the year after, We would be paying him about 300k on potential next year if we paid him 650k

Was about to post something similar.

He's not worth the high end salaries yet, and I doubt he'd expect to be paid that much yet either.

In fact, I think he'd be embarrassed to be paid that much before he's earned it.

And the club would not be wise to be paying him that amount just at this stage.

Not wise but I would be bummed and surprised if they didn't, not because he is worth it, but if that were enough for him to turn down the mega offer then it's worth it IMO. It is terrible that we are put in the position to have to offer any player way over, but that is the current climate we are in unfortunately. And Tom would be worth it.

Completely agree, not worth it at the moment, very good played but not that sort of money! I have no doubts in 2-3 years he will be worth it, what could be worth doing is a 4 year deal and I'm sure the guru's of the world could front load his contract ie so it averages out at 5-600k per year over the 4 years but pay him more over the next couple whilst we have the room to move... Not sure if that works.

People laughed at critised Watts supposedly being on 300-350K this year and for his current contract, now that seem desrved after a solid 10 weeks of being in our top 5 or so, but yes i understand peoples criticism of such a figure

My thought is that somebody needs to be paid money next year who else deserves it out of the players out of contract? Sylvia and Martin so we need to give someone a pay rise

There is growing speculation that i am sick of this issue railroading Melbourne's season:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/ward-to-keep-spot-no-matter-what/story-e6frf9io-1226086864559

So Tom Scully is the reason why we are playing like we are ? Pleassse !

It makes for good soap opera in the media and hysteria on supporter sites but do you think that the team plays like it does because of the Scully situation ?

Railroading ? not !

Grant Thomas just stated on Footy Classified that according to his sources Scully, Mitch Clark and Rhys Palmer are "done deals" for GWS. Caro seemed to concur and Garry remained silent.

More surprised about Mitch Clark than the other two. The guy's a complete space cadet.

Well if that is the case then the young man has no integrity whatsoever.

In the end though, he can just say that he was telling the truth and that he signed after the season was completed.

Problem for him is that now no one will believe him.

I thought he said that "GWS believe they are done deals". That could be true, or it could just be Gubby Allen's bravado.

Well i'm sure that his management and Tom Scully himself could have envisaged the circus this would become.

Gary Ablett last year was the precedent, it was constantly speculated on all throughout the season.

The whole scenario unfortunately does not paint Tom in a very positive light. Even if his intentions are to remain at Melbourne and have been from the start, his character, rightly or wrongly, is being brought into question.

The Scully v Trengove thread goes someway to explain the effect this is having on Tom's standing amongst MFC supporters.

I hope Scully realises that if he indeed does go to GWS, then his name will be mud in Victoria (the home of football)

That and the fact that Trengove and Tapscott will both get rubbed out when they meet for the first time! You can trust me on that one! ;)

But do you really think that anyone else would feel sympathy for MFC. They all would be happy that it wasn't one of their players. I can remember when this all started and the comments were along the line that we cheated anyway etc etc

No, he definitely said that his mail had them as gone.

I thought Caro's agreement was very telling. She seems convinced too and she is very well connected.

Gary certainly didn't chime in with a "let's just wait and see". Just remained silent and wanted to move things on.

At the end of the day, I am personally not that fussed if he does go... His silence has been dissappointing to say the least... If he stays, good... If he goes, good riddance...

All i know is that the SA boys will not be happy... They both see a massive future at this club and if Tom chooses to leave for money (which, let's be honest, would be the ONLY reason) then at least he will be able to afford top bodyguards.... haha...

Oh come ON! Get your bloody hand off it...

She's "very well connected"... My god!

Look, who would they be hearing it from? Who would be the best person to hear it from? Who could it possibly be, who she is "connected to", that would know?

Besides Scully himself, who wouldn't run and tell anyone.

Eddie? Hutchy? Damien bloody Barret??

I doubt Scully's manager/agent would be blabbing it all over town, because it would be his job to keep it quiet from the media.

So someone from GWS? Gubby Allen maybe?

Jeez, he wouldn't have a vested interest in spreading these rumours, would he?

It's been said many times, but there would be very few people that would actually know either way.

On Scully's side, they'd be wanting to keep it secret.

On the GWS side, they have a conflict of interest, so can't be trusted.

Same with the media.

So you can run and tell THAT, homeboy!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
