Dunn, suspended

Featured Replies

Funny, two MFC suspensions in two weeks and my feelings about each could not be more opposing. I think Dunn got off lightly. Seriously dumb football. This is the sort of thing the AFL should be making an example of, not that I think most footballers need reminding not to dive knees first on to a player's head.

Good assessment. Dunn's tackle was very crude.

Bailey has had four years with Dunn. Bailey is struggling with his development. Then Dunn goes and does something stupid. Has Bailey got any control over these blokes in terms of development

Any thought that Dunn is a limited footballer and Bailey may have actually got the best out of him...Hmmmm.

Many don't realise, despite how long he's been at the club, that he's only 23.

I think he still has more to offer, just probably needs a different view/system to fit into.

I think the FD do. This is his seventh year at MFC and he should be making a position in the side his own.

Despite the illusion in 2010, he still has not nailed that spot.

And Bate is in the same boat.

Its amazing we seem to be getting more from a lower pick in the 2004 draft in Newton (and good on him).

P.S. Dunn turned 24 on Saturday.

It would help. But I think the defensive forward idea is good for him, just that Melbourne's overall system isn't set up for a defensive forward. We play far better with a 6-attack forward (see the Adelaide game) then having Dunn stick out like a sore thumb being the only forward with a defensive assignment.

The test is who was he on and what impact did he have on the game relative to Dunn's impact. Based on his form this year many of his assignments would have to be near invisible in their impact to create a net positive outcome.

It's probably a lesser penalty than Jack's given there was a chance Dunny was going to be dropped to Casey which has a bye this week. Effectively, his penalty is one week.

How the hell do Casey have a bye this week, I swear it was 2 weeks ago they had a bye?

Agreed.

Trengove so incredibly stiff it's not funny, Dunn lucky.

2 weeks is a light penalty for that dumb act.

You're kidding aren't you? Newton plays one decent quarter and he's 'giving us more' than Bate and Dunn. Dunn is clearly the new Cameron Bruce on this forum.

What are you talking about??

Petterd played most of the match against Adelaide as a defensive forward on Johncock and performed the role with aplomb.

Deserved double that.

Hopefully doesn't play for us again.

Agree. Very dangerous spot he put pratt in. Should've been 4-5. Shows how much a joke the mrp is.

As for Dunn, i remember posters talking up Dunn as he had a good second half last year.

Form is temporary.

Spud is permanent.

He didn't get more simply because Pratt didn't get badly hurt (which he could have been)

Its not hard to understand. 325 activation points before discount is a serious penalty

Posters want to punish him more because of his stupidity, his lack of form or improvement, rather than the incident

Nope. 4-5 weeks for that act.

Pratt didn't get badly hurt is the luck of the gods. WE should be judging the act not how badly someone is hurt.

If Trengove did that. I would still say that is worth a month.

Nah, I think he deserved weeks, but he got his right whack.

Trengove in comparison just got way way too much.

If Cook keeps performing the way he has, both Dunn and Bate's time will soon be up.

Amazing to think they were all taken at pretty much the same stage of the draft.

(if you can't tell, I really like Cook. He'll be very good up forward for us.)

Absolutely deserved weeks! It was a lazy attempt to pressure and contest and typified the whole ethos of the MFC!

2 weeks for that and another 3 to consider if he deserves to be at MFC!

5 weeks????? Armed robbery is only a few months..............

Well thats not how the penalty system works. Impact plays a role in activation points.

Yes, Dunn was lucky he didn't do more damage. Same as the drunk driver who doesn't have a crash and kill someone.

Tom Hawkins should be cited. Whilst what he did has been done for over 100 years and a free kick was not paid against him, he was negligent in regards to where he put his knee when jumping for that mark. The contact to Toovey was high both with the knee and when Toovey hit the ground. The impact was obviously high as Toovey was stretchered from the ground. Hawkins has a duty of care to make sure he doesn't jump for the ball when someone is running back with the flight and contact may ensue.

When going for a mark, Contact with the knee is always incidental contact as long as the Mark is controlled and held.

My sentiments exactly.

I think this is the least upset I've been after an Mfc suspension!

A few weeks ago i jumped on here and went into bat for dunny amidst all the criticism for his start to the year and supporters calling for his head.I at the time thought it was all a little bit premature and i thought he would get himself back into the form that he showed in the latter half of 2010 (lets not forget those stats were pretty damn impressive for a defensive forward and i would argue he was almost the find of the year for 2010). However those that were prepared to make the tough call early were spot on. I dont think ive seen a Melbourne player ever put in a more dissapointing month as Dunny has. He looked all at sea on Saturday and the final straw came for me in the last quarter when he ran down the wing, kicked the ball straight to 2 north players and threw his hands up in the air as to say "where was the support"? Im very interested to see where we think hes at now?? Been a huge dissapointment this year so far after a promising 2010...

What was Dunn Reported for? nearly hurting someone?

He hardly even contacted pratt...
