Bate led to good spots and was ignored. Bate got himself to really good positions around forward contests to recieve and it didn't go his way. Seemed to work, hard, but didn't get any reward.

Dunn provided and delivered really well. We are highly susceptible if he is our second ruck option, though. Like the idea of him playing defensive forward and kicking a couple each week as well.

Jurrah was soft at the contest on many occasions, and tried to be too fancy kicking grubber goals and no-one has a crack at him. But I suppose that is his role...

Ricky P was the one who realy impacted our forward structure.

I suppose the next in line is Newton....????

I don't think slagging off or jumper punching some guy after the ball has gone out of bounds is tough.

I think putting body on the line in contests and keeping your head up when you think a player might be coming in to spoil your attempted mark is tough.

Thats tough alright, but we need some tough, and Rugged players to add to the side.. thats how they used to describe Ronny Barassi. Rugged. I was kind of hoping Greeny would continue his growth in that direction, but was living in too much hope. Too much a yuppy.

Beamer is the opitomy of what I want as leadership for the team. I just want him to cut the crap out. Tapscott is a beauty. Trenners is Captain material, in waiting...

I personally think Dunn's playing fine, however he should be dropped until he shaves that attempt at a moustache!

It makes me want to hit him in the face. Surprised no one has done it, maybe Boomer his old sparring partner will do it this week. Or Firrito. hahahah,

I have absolutely no problem with having both Dunn and Bate in the forward line. They both bring something different to the mix and they both have a role to play. There is also that added benefit that having so many tall mobile targets makes it very hard for the opposing defence to match up on them, leaving mismatches such as Petterd vs, Johncock yesterday.

I think it's worth bearing in mind that Dunn kicked 2 goals 4 behinds in round one. None of the behinds were touched, they were just off target. On another day that would have been 6 goals. Franklin over at Hawthorn is prone to days like this also, but for some reason nobody ever questions his place in the forward setup. Let's not forget that he was also used as a tagging midfielder because of his elite running and tackling. As a defensive forward he is worth his weight in gold.

Bate is not a goal scoring player. His strengths are his big body and his scoring involvements. It was only a couple of years ago that Garry Lyon had him verging on top 50 in the AFL on the back of his scoring assists ans ability to break tackles. What he is giving us is a powerful player who can draw tacklers, freeing up his teammates, and still make an effective handoff. He has a very good boot and can kick a goal from outside 50 if given space. His tackling pressure is also more than good enough.

Personally, I like the look of the forward line we played yesterday. It has a very good mix of grunt and speed. We had a spread of goal kickers, and every one of the forwards contributed on the scoreboard. Even when we have all of our medium/tall players on the ground at once we are not shorting ourselves on crumbing as they have all shown some ability in this area. They need to improve if they are going to be a premiership lineup, but they are still looking pretty good.

Apart from them both having days in which they are inaccurate how is there an analogy?

Franklin's place isn't questioned because in addition to often drawing the best defender - or defenders - he still manages big bags on a somewhat regular basis.

I don't see the analogy.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
