Beamer in trouble ...

Featured Replies

If you want to see crazy bars, theres none worse than those I saw in Yugoslavia back in the Commie days in Eastern Croatia. Same area where they did some of the genocide killings in the 90's. All the drinkers when they finished their beers smashed the bottles on the floor or hurled them against the walls. By the end of the night there was broken glass 2 inches thick all over the floor. Anyone that fell over would have been in trouble. No one batted an eyelid or payed any attention even though bottles were flying about everywhere. Saw that in a few places.

Sounds like a scene straight out of Hostel 2!

The only person I am angry at about this is bloody Eddie Maguire. Putting an unsubstantiated rumour on the radio like it was gospel about someone pissing on a bar when it didnt actually happen. Next thing you know the little paper has blown it all out of proportion with sensationalist headlines. That collingwood muppet should know better, and the guy who called up and started the rumour should be on the radio tomorrow apologising to Beamer.

I have to say I have some sympathy with this view. These FM radio stations get away with murder these days with their encouragement of muck raking and gossip mongering.

Chuck enough mud and some is bound to stick. Moloney will now be referred to as "that bloke that peed on the bar" by any number of ignoramuses who couldn't focus their short attention spans on the truth of the story as it unfolded.

There's a whiff of character assassination about it in my opinion and tossbags like Eddie McGuire and his station head mates are directly to blame, you are right.

Absolutely the right decision by the club.

We have a clear no d!ckhead policy, and have gone out of our way to avoid bad eggs and clear our list of them.

Moloney's behaviour (and thankfully he did not urinate anywhere publicly), was inappropriate for any footballer, especially a vice captain of our club.

He let himself down and he embarrassed our club. There are no shades of gray here.

It's just so disappointing that a player who has worked so hard on his game and for many years tried to get into the leadership group has let everyone down so badly.

I doubt he'll ever repeat this sort of stupidity though, so we move on.

You wont often catch me defending the media but I wouldn't call it the media's fault.

At the end of the day, we lap this sorta crap up, the media pretty much give us what we want, if they dont they go broke.

Precisely what is news worthy became blurred when People Magazine was launched as a spin off from Time. It now easily outsells Time and has effectively propped up an ailing Time magazine. Fast forward almost 40 years and we have nine "news" crossing live to the Judd Twigley wedding three times in one bulletin.

What did Marshall Mcluen (sp?) say again "all News is ultimately local". Just about sums it up IMO.

The club was backed into a corner and had to make a statement. To any supporter they would know that this penalty for Beamer will hurt him. He loves the club and being Vice Captian would be a dream for him. He deserved what he got and I sincerely hope through his actions on and off the field over the next 6 months he can get back this. This is Character building and to me this guy is all class. Get on him for the B&F he will respond in the best way he knows how, with very good footy.

What the clb has done is responded to an issue and put it to bed quickly, it will get media attention tomorrow, gone Wednesday and will be mentioned in the broadcast on Sunday. The matter is dead.

The only person I am angry at about this is bloody Eddie Maguire.

The president of an AFL club has actively participated in spreading gossip about a player from a rival club.

Eddie is wilfully ignorant when it comes to conflict of interest.

"Oh, but I'm wearing my radio host hat!"

Does he resign as C'wood president every morning and then get re-elected at 9AM?

[censored], Eddie. You are the president 24x7. What would your reaction be if Brayshaw, Kennett, Jimmy, etc, ran around telling stories about C'wood players? Esp. if they turned out not to be true?

It's no easy thing to front the media and apologize.

I saw Beamer on the news and I thought he spoke well.

Good on him. This in itself showed leadership.

This is being blown way out of proportion. For goodness sakes the guy had 36 disposals yesterday and a million clearances yesterday. Its been confirmed he didnt urinate on the bar after a thorough investigation. He went out to let his hair down, maybe drank a lil too much but didnt cause any trouble whatsoever. He turned up to recovery today and will be looking forward to a big week on the track and a big game on the weekend. End of story.

Considering the expectations you have for a 20 year old CHF on the field, you sure have low ones for a 27 year old VC off the field.

It's indirectly part of his job not to drink until 2 in the morning, it is even more reprehensible as he is a VC of the club and a 'leader.'

He sets high standards for others (re: Sylvia) and he, rightly, took the medicine that was coming for him and he will hopefully respond well.

Yeah. Reeks of the "Chinese whisper" thing. Someone says they saw Beamer [censored] at the bar of a nightclub, and next thing it's being broadcast he had a [censored] at the bar!!

The guy stuffed up, and is now reaping the results. I feel for him. But, was stupid to be out at that hour before a recovery session, getting blotto and leaving himself open to the typical media frenzy. Sure hope he learns his lesson, and gets on with his job of helping the MFC win games!

Maybe Beamer said or did something this fella didn't like,,, It happens you know.

He'd probably come out with something along the lines of "they'll be accused of the Kennedy shooting next"...

The Greek Islands are a strange place.

There are bars where that was open slather. There was even a term for it - "firetrucking".

Bloody footballers...

Firetrucking, never heard that before.

But I was in attnedence years ago with some young footballers in Tassie, where they all started pissing under the table on the carpet...

I couldn't believe it, not my style.. A bit juvenile.

Its a really crud leadership example in a side that lacks leadership when a senior player and VC goes on a 7 hour bender the day before a recovery session. Really poor stuff. Neither MFC or the nightclub are claiming the urination issue. MFC is publicly disappointed at the lack of judgement, decision making and example set by Moloney. He was right to publicly commit to counselling.

In a nutshell.

Well done on completely missing the point. B)

7 hour bender???? Bad words [censored]. A dinner with a few drinks then heading out afterwards is not a bender. Leaving friday night after work and coming home sunday now that is a bender!

Also just an issue with mmm hot breakfast if you get a caller with a story check it out before you run with it. I know it a breakfast show and they wouldnt have been able to find out the facts but maybe clarify before you report it. Also dont trust your callers so much.

Remember when shaw ran away when he crashed his car a few years ago and people said Didak was with him and Eddie didnt believe them and turned out he was wrong and was made to look stupid.

Well now he has done the opposite and it wrong.

Im not entirely blaming eddie but what the public tell you isnt true all the time.

Anyway the punishment has been done lets move on and focus on beating the suns.

Selective black & white faith.. Eddie loves the white faith, all day & all night, anytime he can.

Never mind, "he blew his mind out in a car", I think the song said.

Little dickie Eddie, ah, I think he seems to have his cross, eye brow hairs, on the Mighty Dees.

The lights get the brightest, just before the End, ed.

Ok, I'm not sure if I should, but I'll divulge.

I have been drinking with Beamer and he is a bloody lightweight.

I swear I drank 30% more than him and he was struggling.

I was shocked.

This is a couple of years ago now, but I think it's still relevant.

It doesnt necessarily make the situation any better, but I think he just tries to keep up and can't.

At the time I put it down to the fact he doesn't drink often, so it hits him hard.

how does this help the situation?

It doesn't really.

But I can understand that he maybe just wanted to have a few drinks with some mates & he can't handle them.

I feel for the guy, even though he should know better.

i think peoples mentalities need to change...rather than wanting someone to keep up...people should slow down...maybe beamer was drinking at a resonable pace?

I was waiting for the point but it didn't seem to come?

you just wanted to say this didn't you.

If your story is true, that's even more reason why he shouldn't have been out drinking at 2am with a recovery session the next day.

As another poster said, in the end this could make him a better player and one who now understands that being a great "club man", off the field, means a lot more than being out with your mates on the [censored].

He showed in today's presser and the honesty he showed, that maybe he now gets it.

Lead by example - the ball is in his court.

Ha classic!....lets hope he does some firetruckin on the suns this weekend!

Maybe you're jealous, I don't know?

Basically I'm saying that from personal experience he is a lightweight.

You might not think it's relevant.

I thought that it has some relevance when I suddenly remembered the episode shortly before posting.

Ignore it if you like.

In my eyes it's not really anything to brag about.

Just a night drinking in the offseason with a bloke I vaguely know and a bunch of girls.

All this is good for is for you to name drop you drank with Moloney. Good for you mate, I'm sure you tell all your friends about it. Has nothing to do at all with the situation.

Right decision by the club even if he didn't [censored] on the bar which was simply made up by whoever it was who called in. We need to set an example and stick by our "code of conduct" for lack of a better word. He'll bounce back.

You're right, this wasn't an incident involving Moloney drinking excessively and I shouldn't have twisted the situation just so I could bring up some first-hand knowledge of just that...

Idiot.

If you drank with him on a consistent basis then maybe it has some credibility. But you drank with him once and made an assumption on that day that he's a lightweight. Ridiculous and irrelevant to what happened today. Name dropping at it's finest.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?
