THE TOM SCULLY TO GWS THREAD

Featured Replies

Does the fact that Scully originally declined a three year contract have any weight here? To me, this reads as if he did so in order to field offers after the standard two year contract. If this is the case, I'd say there is more evidence that he will jump ship. It could also mean that he knew he would perform well and thus could demand more money from Melbourne, which is fair.

No 17 year old is that strategic. He is simply listening to the advice of his manager.

To some of you, Tom is an evil mastermind sent from the future to tease you, bring you to the precipice and leave you hanging.

Get a grip.

Scully might be left out due to knee soreness? [censored], he's definitely signed. Let's organise a mass suicide now.

I'll make the Kool-aid!

And I won't test it this time...

Beginner's mistake.

Yeah, except that:

1- the girl is Miranda Kerr,

2- she hasn't said that she's breaking up with you, nor has she given any indication of it,

3- she's already committed to having sex with you for the rest of the season,

4- she's given no indication that she won't continue to have sex with you for the rest of your life,

5- your next girlfriend is unlikely to be Miranda Kerr, and

6- it's Miranda Kerr.

So you'd break up with Miranda Kerr just because you got paranoid and confronted her about accusing her of cheating on you without any evidence, simply because some jealous guy from West Sydney started a rumour that she's cheating on you.

So I assume that you're real name isn't Orlando Bloom.

And for those of us a little older substitute Elle McPherson.

All you have to do is bottom line his actions

After a successful first year where he justified his selection as pick no1 and finished eighth??? in the B&F playing for the oldest club in the game, Melbourne FC, at the home of football the MCG, with what pundits determine to be one of the most promising lists in the AFL with the club now debt free thanks to passionate members and a fantastic Prez in Jim Stynes he has decided to risk injury and poor form (second year blues anyone)and negotiate a new contract at the end of the season so he can focus on football. Give me a break.

What a load of bollocks, look at the situation and stop romanticising, he has been offered a shed load of money to go to GWS and will at seasons end, lets move on. Take a look over at Richmond, Dustin Martin had the football world raving with his play last year, finished 4th in their B&F, what has he gone and done, signed a new contract to remain at punt rd. Why didn't Dustin Martin decide to negotiate a new contract at the end of the season when possibly he could have gotten more coin??? Because he wants to be at Richmond.

You are the same lot who actually thought that the fact Chris Judd barracked for the Dees as a child would see him wear the red and blue. C'mon, open your eyes and dont be deceived by a player at the MFC has said this or Sam Blease's uncle said that or Eddie is trying to divert attention from Pendlebury, Thomas et al, read his actions, that is all we have to go on. Saying he will not negotiate a contract so he can focus on football when he knows that the speculation will achieve the opposite speaks volumes. I hope i'm wrong and you can dust this post off and give me a pasting if he does sign, but based on the evidence at hand, not the speculation, it does not look good.

I think we should also not neglect to remember that there is still Sylvia, Davey, Green, Grimes, Jurrah, Watts, Trengrove, Mackenzie, Frawley, Moloney, and the remainder of the team...

stranga, where did you read that. Herald Sun just posted final sqauds and he was named.

Why is this often stated as fact on this forum?

It's not true.

We wanted to stagger the contracts of Scully and Trengove, hence we didn't sign both for 3 years.

If both were out of contract this year, or both next year, we'd be in a world of trouble.

It would be a certainty we'd lose one.

As it is, is much more manageable.

Bloody hell! The tinfoil hat brigade is out in full force today by the looks of it. I swear that half of you will be looking at chicken entrails next to find out what is happening with our Tom.

We are not going to play him at Casey.

We are not going to demand he sign now or GTFO.

We are not going to do any other stupid things.

It is a rumour and more and more I think it is a case of smoke and mirrors. The only people benefiting from this mornings crap is Sheedy who gets free publicity and sends the papers off chasing rainbows while he chases players in the other direction and Eddie who gets some breathing space before the inevitable "Why haven't Swan/Pendles?Daisy" re-signed questions get asked.

If I am at the footy and some so-called supporter boos Scully or calls him a dog or somesuch I'm going to punch them in the head.

I'll make the Kool-aid!

Beginner's mistake.

LOL.

Rest easy, he's staying put.

That's evidence?!

Jeez...

Some of you love the Syndrome.

I get it. It's safe in this 'woe is us' box. High hopes don't get demolished because you never have any.

But at some point you are going to have to say to yourself "this club isn't destined for calamity."

He hasn't gone yet, stop acting like you know the future just because "the future" has always brought ruin.

Jeez it's quite scary to see it as the headline on the AFL website...So Eddie said that he's signed? This talk about Scully is getting much more serous, hopefully it isn't too much of a distraction to the playing group though.

So hope you are right.

Yeh well he told me not to worry, it'll be fine re:scully. That said, what do players know? Do they know more than anyone else?

That's evidence?!

Got nothing 2 do with feeling like the club is destined for calamity nor am I acting like I know the future, I am the only one on this board who is bottom lining his actions and when done so in the cold light of day, it does not look good. That does not mean that I am certain that he is staying or goin it just leads me to believe that BASED ON HIS ACTIONS WHICH ARE FACT is he most likely has signed with GWS.

As for if he leaves, I will not label him a dog or boo him when we play next, a few of you are in for a hard time in the future if you become attached to players, we are headed in the direction of the NBA and the EPL. I will wish him all the best and thank him for his efforts whilst at Melbourne and will sit comfortable in the knowledge that he isn't playing for a team he doesn't want to be at and most likely a high compensation pick could be used on a player who wants to be at Melbourne and no one has considered the possibility that we may get a player that is BETTER than Tom Scully in the future.

Yeah, except that:

Great analogy Bob!!

The facts I see are many Demon fans have come to the same conclusion you have on nothing more than deliberate and purposeful rumour and their own neurotic fears.

The NAB Cup hasn't started yet but you think he has gone?

It's pessimistic optimism, it's the syndrome, and it isn't healthy.

Maybe there's a rich benefactor out there who could offer Miranda Kerr an ambassadorship for world modelling or something, on the side of course.

Now she's a mother, has her value gone up or down?

That's evidence?!

Jeez...

The Syndrome is like a any stereotype, it exists for a reason! Poeple dont just make stereotypes up out of thin air. Maybe because over the last 40 years we havent had a lot of things go right and when they do go right things tend to conspire to prevent it from continuing. There are many example and this Scully saga threatens to be another. In the flip side to the syndrome, how can some people be so sure that things will be ok this time?

That is the worst justification for MFCSS I've seen to date.

Now she's a mother, has her value gone up or down?

Given she had a boy, down, as there won't be an opportunity to make use of the mother\daughter rule in 18 years time.

Maybe its karma for us tanking. Ok maybe we didnt tank but not winning those matches. I will be devastated if we lose Tom. The thig is Eddie's mail is uaually right. But Im not sure why Tom would sign before round 1. If Tom has signed I want him to look Jim, Dean and Cameron in the eye and tell them.

My thing is all this money being thrown at a young player. Its his second season and already a club is thowing around 6 mill at him. He isnt worth that money. Thats the problem these young players get hold of this money then end up with problems.

Also

Tom is going to be asked about his contract all throughout the saeson and so will the club to the point they will get sick of it. It would be nice to hear Tom say this club is going somewhere and I want to be part of it.

On the other hand who wouldnt seriously consider this deal. If anyone of us got offered this sort of money by another business of course you will think about it. I can see why he may take it.

His footy manager will be saying wait until the end then we can up the money. Bloody managers. They can see there cut and the $ dollar signs light up.

But Id like to think we would win a flag before GWS. Also why would you want to live in western sydney. At least the Gold Coast is appealing.

Tom please stay. You are our future and you will get rewarded with loyalty. Money isnt everything.

That is the worst justification for MFCSS I've seen to date.

I dont reckon its the worst, plus i reckon every melbourne supporter suffers from it in some degree, however you want to explain it. Any supporter of a club that hasn't won a flag in 40 years should be wary.

As posted on Bigfooty, if I were Dean Bailey/Cameron Schwab/Brad Green or someone ranked highly at the club, I'd tell Tom to look Jimmy Stynes in the eye and tell him he no longer wants to be a part of the club because another's giving him a bit more money.

And [censored] this thread's big.

Let us hope that Tom makes the best decision for him.

Maybe its karma for us tanking. Ok maybe we didnt tank but not winning those matches. I

oh shut up

Hawthorn, St.Kilda, Carlton, Richmond, West Coast, Collingwood, Bulldogs even the Cats via F/S picks.. all these sides have cleaned up over the last 6-7 years in the draft, what did we get, one priority pick big friggin whoop.
