2011 Intraclub Match

You're obviously a very smart bloke.

plenty for Morton to do

has all the weapons but fails to use them far too often

will be an interesting one to watch, right now is in the Brock McLean/Travis Johnstone basket for mine

yeah that's why I asked, hoping someone would offer something, alas the mystery of the post's deletion remains unsolved

pick 18 for this bloke.. wouldn't mind seeing something, even Blease has got on the park a bit and he broke his leg

Perhaps he is filling the token "season injured player " spot.

At least that keeps some others on the park

Tapscott showed a fair bit when he played for Casey last year I thought. Strong marking, tackling and kicked a couple of important goals. He also embarrassed Karmichael Hunt with a huge bump

Pretty sure he would like to be out there........

Tapscott was not played due to training load. He has not completed enough to play. No current injury.

Tapscott looked great last year playing for Casey.

Maybe some of you missed it.

Grimes took a while but was well worth the wait.

LT will be the same.

Was he recruited to be a star????????

Let's be honest and frank here- of course he was recruited to be a STAR. And he will be.Just learning the craft to be one.

he was pick 18. basically first round pick..and he's on a 3 year contract.

lets be honest guys..you can't take a player who's not fully ready and make him play a practice match that means nothing...except if your fit and your trying to fine tune yourself in time for the nab cup.

if melbourne rushes young players into playing when they aren't ready due to injury/form/other reasons....players could look elsewhere..like GWS. think long term people

He did at that. Maybe that's where the keen-ness to see him out there for the MFC comes from.

I keep mentioning him to mates as a hidden gem and it would be sooooo satistfying to finally have them see the light.

Patience guys. I was watching the intraclub with a few mates (don't tell my employer!) and we were having a great chat to Cam Schwab. What a lovely guy! So impressive...we are in great hands.

Cam raised so many interesting points. One he mentioned was around the different players and with their different body types and loads. Basically he was saying that some of the guys that look really strong don't actually have the core strength needed and the club almost needs to re-build their bodies. He covered a few like Morton and Tapscott etc. He said with Tapscott he is totally over his injuries from his first year. However, he has not done the training loads required and, as such, he is effectively being managed carefully. He did say that (unlike some) he is actually pretty strong overall but they are still only building training loads. So treat him more like a first year player guys and be patient..as I said we are in good hands and from Cam S and Jimmy down the club. Enjoy the ride in 2011!

Lucky the game was moved even though many were disappointed. I wonder how many would have turned up with this weather - about 2 inches of rain fell in the two hours from 6 to 8.

No mystery. GGR was banned for constant bickering, belligerence to other posters including sniping and arguing for the sake of arguing with, belittling and provoking others and with having multiple accounts (see code of conduct). Many of his posts were deleted as well as peoples' responses to provacative posts. Yours was deleted as part of that.

Let this be a warning to everyone that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated. We are taking a no tolerance policy towards people provoking others just to get a rise out of them. If you are going to argue and play the man and not the ball, you will be banned (perhaps without warning in extreme cases).

We have no problem with people disagreeing or having different points of view but there's no reason to respond disrespectfully by resorting to name calling, sniping and provoking. This will only get you and your other nom de plumes banned. If you think you can then sign up with another account and resort to the same type of behaviour you will be found out and your IP address(es) will be banned too making it harder for you to post.

We all support the same club and want to encourage supporters - particularly young people - to post about the club. They should be able to do this without constant intimidation and bad will.

You Lied.

Epic.

Yes! That was the highlight of the set for me, I've seen far better sets from them, but You Lied was a nice surprise.

Lateralus/Orion/Drumming hijinks equally entertaining.

Sorry, back to the topic...

The matters of training loads and body types are interesting. Years ago they would have played someone like Tapscott in a game like this but now, with a more scientific approach, he's being looked after for the sake of ensuring his chances of having a healthy season and of ultimately prolonging his career.

When I saw him two years ago in the Under 18's he was carrying a lot of weight and threatened to become another Stewart Dew. Dew managed to play in a couple of premiership teams but he also had a constant battle with his weight. Hopefully, that will be avoided in the case of Luke Tapscott (I mean the weight problems not the multiple premierships :) )

I think Jordan Gysberts is in a similar category insofar as taking a conservative approach to his return to full participation. His workload is also being managed to ensure that he is best able to cope with the rigours of a long season.

It's great to see Watts, Scully, Trengove kicking on but if we can get the likes of Tapscott, Gysberts and Blease right then we can really start to get excited and enthused about our future.

ahhh right I see. cheers. Cheers others for words on Tapscott, it's almost hard to believe we have other gems in the making, there are going to be some good players trying to break into the side

DD - you are getting the posts mixed up- was referring to Watts, not Tapscott.

Watts doesn't look close to taking contested high marks in the forward line. He struggles to get in the right position and ends up flinging one arm in the air in a forlorn attempt.

I want Watts to be a star. He was recruited to be a star. Until he's able to take strong contested overhead marks against good opposition he won't come close.

Rubbish.

He was recruited to be a good player. Not all #1 draft picks are stars. In fact by my count less than half ever get to be that good. The club's recruited 40+ players and they hope that 6-10 of them will be stars.

Besides... What you're asking for isn't a star... you're asking for a star KP forward. You're asking for Hall, Tredrea, Brown, Fev... Watts as a player I reckon comes closer in type to someone like Goddard. By far the best things I've seen him do are when he's playing outside fifty, using his pace a bit, and delivering lace-out into the forward line. He sees options and hits them up like a ten-year veteran.

Like everyone I want him to be a good player, but I'm not going to INSIST he become a monster forward if his natural development steers him towards a role outside fifty. I would hope the club wouldn't place the kind of unrealistic expectations you do on ANY player at his age.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
