I thought he did the right and disciplined thing by passing to Petterd. After all. Petterd was marking everything in sight that day and he was in a good position to mark. Had the kick been timed just a split-second earlier it would have been all over red rover.

Was said to have elite disposal by foot when we drafted Rohan. Didn't show much first year for Casey, but certainly looked fine in the Red and Blue this year.

My Bail moment - Against Richmond where he grabbed the ball away from Martin did a blind turn and drilled a pass (to Watts I think, for a goal not quite sure).

Bail's already exceeded my expectations.

Major query for me is his disposal.

He's not best 22 for me though, but I do like him.

Tough question that. I see him as a midfielder-cum-forward definitely, but his pace and tenacity make him an ok fit for a rebounding small defender role.

If the old adage that once you're drafted, everyone's equal from rookie to #1 picks, then this kid has to be in our 22, or at least in our 23-25... which in the injury plagued world of the AFL is tantamount to saying he's in the side. In his favour is the fact he's a lovely fit for the modern game, in a variety of roles. If you take, for example, Jones... who is likely the better player at the moment, but is really confined to a single role in the team... and compare him to Bail who has a bit of speed, a good footy brain, can kick a goal, evade, run-with, and play comfortably in at least two areas of the ground... it makes you think the only way is up for the kid.

Five minutes before the end Bail was in an identical situation and he kicked a perfect pass to Dunne who goaled.

He stuck to the successful formula and unfortunately it was the only mark Pettard dropped all day.

He did the team thing. Any other time in the game it would have been the right thing to do. If he ever finds himself in that situation again he will no doubt remember and take the shot, but for a player with less than 10 games to his name, it was a good sign that he did the team thing and we can perhaps forgive a lack of situational awareness regarding the clock.

I'll add that the big moment when I realised that we had a serious player on our hands was in the first game I got to this year. I can't remember who it was against, just that there was a long ball out of defence to the wing, the ball spilled to the back of the pack and Bail lurking behind scooping it up and taking off to a vacant 50 for the first score of the match. I remember standing up and yelling "look at Bail!" as he took off, and of course the let sown when he missed the shot. However, he made a habit of taking the spill off the back of packs and running us into attack this year and it's something we can never get enough of.

Look I like him as a player and we're not talking about Bate. However I just want Melbourne players to kick those goals. Sure there's lots of reason's why what he did was the right thing but they'll never be as right as just kicking it through the big sticks.

Why would you waste his speed and run in a lock-down role? I would have thought more a Davey-type role. I always figured he and Benny were fighting for the same spot.
