Thanks for your efforts @Macca…must admit the tipping comp was a rather pointless exercise for me though 😉

See you in the post-season.

Lift… maybe not, just be a little smarter. Hit those two wide open and it’s a easier win.

See you in the post-season.

Don't worry, there were a total of 8 of us who scored 4 points or less.  It was a weird regular season with so many teams falling away whilst others who were unlikely, shone

Week to week, a number of the favoured road teams failed to deliver

As for our tipping, DS & GtB showed us how to do it!  So the points were there to attain (kinda, sorta)

@DeeSpencer@Go the Biff@layzie@Clintosaurus@titan_uranus@Gorgoroth@Dr. Gonzo@DemonDave@JV7@Dee Zephyr

Schedule Week 1 Playoffs

Sun 8.30am Seattle @ San Francisco

Sun 12 15pm Chargers @ Jacksonville

Mon 5.00am Miami @ Buffalo

Mon 8.30am NY Giants @ Minnesota

Mon 12.15pm Baltimore @ Cincinatti

Tues 12.15pm Dallas @ Tampa Bay

Chiefs & Eagles bye

More later but the post season tipping comp works as follows (by the way, newcomers are most welcome)

Just post up your scores or just the winners with a margin of victory

e.g Miami 15 Buffalo 23 or

Buffalo win by 8 (or 7 - 12)

Week 1 - each win (home or away) is worth a point with a bonus point added (for each match) if your margin of victory correctly falls within one of the winning 3 brackets (1 - 6, 7 - 12 or 13+)

Week 2 ... 2 points per win with 2 bonus points available for each of the 4 games

Week 3 ... 3 points per win with 3 bonus points on offer for both games

Super Bowl ... 5 points for the win with 5 bonus points on offer

A second chance at glory after most of us had a disastrous regular season at tipping!

So how do we reckon the playoffs will play out?

Are KC & the Eagles set up to get through to the SB? Outside of those 2, who are the next best 2 or perhaps there's more than 4 genuine hopes to win out?

Vikes, 49ers, Bills are likely but how about TB and Tampa?  Cinci might get hot and how 'bout them Cowboys?  Jags should progress past week 1

KC are primed, they have weapons all over the shop and no longer rely on Kelce/Hill combo. Will only get stronger in the run game over the coming weeks.
Bills have dropped back a bit imo, but still a threat if Allen gets healthier.

Bengals are the ones hitting form at the right time.

Eagles have been great, can Hurts stay healthy enough t9 see them through?

Niners D is great and have carried them for years, less so with McCaffrey but I think as always QB is their weak point vs the top D’s.

Vikes are similar, Cousins can be great or average and their WR core is very good, but their D doesn’t stack up as high as say the niners.
For me it’s a AFC win, just a matter of who.

I sound like a broken record each year but thanks again for the regular season tipping comp @Macca it is great fun (even though winners were scarce for myself this year).

Bring on the post season!

Tua ruled out.

Lamar Jackson still not training so will miss again and Huntley didn’t throw in practice.

Another good comp in what was a very strange tipping season. Congrats @DeeSpencer on the win and thanks @Maccafor your efforts as always.

Looking ahead, I think it's going to be one of the best playoff series in years when it comes to excitement, surprises and matchups. There's some brilliant teams in there but no absolute dominant standout. The closest thing to that would be KC and at that stage they would be my pick to win it, the offense has changed a bit since they won it and in many ways you'd have to say it's stronger as a whole. Juju has been an excellent pick up and they have the QB with the tools and now experience to do it. You don't lead total points and yards for nothing.

The Bills are well placed too but hoping Allen is healthy and we'll see how they come out of this emotional period.

The Eagles have been great but there have been some cracks in recent weeks and will Hurts lack of games lately hurt them? Still giving them the nod for best NFC chance.

Niners have been one of the more in-form sides, the front 7 is close to the best but I'm not sure our secondary as one of the few times we came up against good weapons (D Adams) we were smoked. Been very impressed with Purdy but there are weaknesses there to be exploited by defenses. Obviously thus being the team I watch the most I'll be the most critical.

I hate to say it but don't sleep on the Cowboys, it's an even more balanced team going in to these playoffs and this loss they just had to Washington you'd have to think this puts a rocket up their you know what. Terrorising defense and roster wise I have them on par with SF.

The Bengals are playing very well at the moment and I can see them catching fire again.

In playoffs I'm all about quarterbacks and "Who is your QB and which QBs are you facing?" For this reason the AFC has a few collision courses but also for this reason I fancy the SB winner coming from there.

@layzie I’ll sleep on the cowpatties, they are an average play off team with a good D with some very good players on it, but Dak has failed multiple times and McCarthy is a coach who can’t win playoffs. With what he had a GB he should have won multiple.
The Pattie’s will go no where.

NY Giants 12 Minnesota 20

Baltimore 17 Cincinatti 20

@layzie sorry, I got one thing wrong, the CowPattie’s will beat Tampa cos Tampa are pure garbage, then go no where cos they’re hot trash 😄

If you get time, Gonzo, post up some margins for the bonus points on each match (1-6, 7-12 or 13+)

If not, I'll make an executive decision and make them all 1-6.  Not sure anyone is going to mind (unless they do mind,  haha!)

Anyway, nice start to a Sunday tomorrow with a couple of good match-ups.  2nd game promises to be close but the 9ers should take care of business at home

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
