A new generation of DEE supporters

Featured Replies

Just listening to SEN and a caller mentioned off-handedly his young son had jumped on board the Dees . How great is this. Noticed too in local paper had pic with kids jumpered up for 'footy' day and there was a proud young girl in her Melbourne guernsey ! Doesn't seem all that long ago seeing red and blue

in schoolyards was a rarity.

Who else is noticing this kiddy ground-swell ?

Don't worry the new demon breed def coming through. And they are keen as the club is so open, accessible and encouraging to young members these days. My four year old has already been to a number of things organised by the club, loves the dees and especially aaron davey!

The kids in the schoolyard will return big time to the Demons when we start winning Big Games.

When Liam Jurrah kicks 4 in the last Quarter of a final to put us into a Preliminary.

The kids will jump on when we start winning on Friday night. And those same players attend Auskick.

Next year we should see a rise in Kid memberships and small Jumper sales B)

Aaron Davey will keep Demon kids interested.

Liam Jurrah will devastate fathers who support other clubs...

nephew mentioned to me today that some of his class mates were talking heaps about jurrah's mark today being mark of year. interesting. that is where it starts.

Spot on. Prime Time Media will get the kids flooding Back, as long as Victories do occur

Prime Time Media witnessing a thrashing kills teams-Its why the Bulldogs have never really cracked big memberships- Because they never win those really big games.

The same Hurdle we must beat next year. If we can win some big scalps next year (& not just hang on-But come home kicking goals on Free to Air TV) Kids will jump on i have no doubt.

The Recruiting of Liam Jurrah could be the best thing we have done since '64.

Maybe we could get LJ to grow back his top knot. I reckon he'd be even more of a cult figure.

This is one of, if not the most important thing for our future and long term viability.

Get kids supporting us now and we're guaranteed a large membership and supporter base for years to come.

I think the likes of Davey, Aussie and especially Jurrah will really catch the eye of young kids, while the likes of Scully, Trengove and Frawley will probably draw slightly older kids who are interested in footy but don't have a team to follow.

Of course exposure and good form is also going to help hugely.

Nice B)

Yay! One kid is on board. We now own the AFL!

Those Demon Heartland packages might become hot commodities soon!

Looks like I'll signing up for another couple this year again...

Part of my thinking about a young supporter Renaissance revolves around the notion that for decades it was, well of kind , very unfashionable

to follow Melbourne let alone start a career of supporting us.. Schoolyard lugging stocks etc. But it's almost downright cool to wear red and blue at school now . The likes of jurrah davey scully etc are inspirational. Kids doing "jurrah's" !!! This and some decent press all adds to the thinking of developing minds. I'm sure the club is observant of this and will hopefully exploit any avenues of securing these kids as Dees .

I think there has been a rise in little little kids' jumpers this year. I say that because 16 weeks ago, when my son was born, we signed him up for a Little Devil membership. It arrived a week later with a membership pack and a dog blanket (with pets Paradise logos knitted into it). I thought the club had accidentally processed me as a dog membership (I have one of them too!). But no, the note came inside the blanket saying that "due to the huge sales in the little devil category, there are no more kids blankets. But don't worry, this one's exactly the same". So I would say whoever wrote that note doesn't have kids (and it is a game parent that wraps their 2 week old in a dog blanket!).

But the good part of that is, we have more little devils than we anticipated!!

Good positive comment there. I am sure with sarcasm like and supporter like you we will get all the kids supporting the dees (and yes I am also being sarcastic).

Maybe they ran out cause they sent me 4 blankets instead of 2 for my girls?

But great kicks of non dee supporters and wanting to be our heroes in the playground, thats where it all starts!!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
