Something that I've been considering for some time is whether we should trade Jamar.

He's been great for us this season and will be useful in developing the other rucks, however, his value is at it's peak following his inclusion in the All Australian team.

He's my argument for trading him:

- he could be worth a first round draft pick (Jolly went for pick 14 and 46 when he was 27)

- he's 27 and will start going down hill in the next couple of years

- he's just played his best season

- this is the first season in which he's played 22 games, he played 21 games in 2006, but other than that, his previous best was 14 games in 2008

- he's an All Australian player and that will inflate his value significantly (Burgoyne was worth picks 8 & 9 despite his only All Australian appearance being in 2006, three years before he was traded)

- we could recruit another young player or two with a high draft pick who will develop alongside Scully, Trengove, Watts & co.

Who would want him?

- Hawthorn?

- Bulldogs?

- Adelaide (pick 14)?

- Port (pick 16)?

- Gold Coast?

- Carlton (pick 18)?

It's difficult to see who would pick him up, although I'm sure that things will become a lot clearer once the Gold Coast enters trade week and other teams get some of their picks in exchange for their players.

Ruckmen dont reach their peak until 26/27, we've invested all this time into him and now we should reap the rewards

I like people who are forward thinking...but because ruckman take longer to develop, it means they are in their absolute prime anywhere from 25-32. I'd rather hang onto Jamar because if he's playing like he is when he's 30 (2013), then we're a great shot!

Ruckmen take years to develop. Jamar is at that point now & you want to Trade Him??

Answer to your second Question. All teams would want him, and they would laugh at us for along time!

Can't believe this thread has been put up.

Sigh.

I am not sure why in the world we would want to trade our AA and B/F candidate, simply because he is at his peak now and will be worth more.

Yeah, let's trade all our young players when they reach 25, cos they'll be worth more...then trade the players we get with those draft picks when they become good!

Looking forward to seeing who you would play in the ruck once he has gone.

The reason why I considered it was that we won't be competing for the flag for another 2-3 years at the earliest, by which time he'll be 29-30.

Cox and Hille are 29 and have started to go down hill a bit, although they're still capable of playing good football.

Hopefully Spencer, Gawn and Fitzpatrick will have started to develop and we'll have one or two more top forward/midfielders who add strength and depth to our premiership team.

Remember, the in the past when we've traded older quality players, such as Johnstone and McLean, we've picked up quality kids in Grimes and Gysberts.

So between now and 2014 you want us to lose every ruck contest and thus struggle to ever win a clearance.

That will sure fast track our development.

While we're at it, lets get rid of Davey, Rivers, Moloney and Green, because they'll be pretty old by the time we're ready to win a flag.

Seriously, no.

Most ridiculous suggestion I.ve heard. Who will give us that advantage in the centre over the next 2-3 years. None of the others are up to it yet. Maybe in 2-3 we will have someone who has acheived what he has to take over the reins.

NO!!! NO!!!! NO!!!!!!

no way.

Ruckman are absolutely golden to any team, its taken us 8 years to develop one, there's only probably 6 decent ruckman in the league and we have one of them, he's onyl 27 years old and at least 4 really good years ahead of him.

he's in our 1-5 most important players on our list and if i could rank all the players i'd be willing to trade from 1-40, he's probably be the 35th-40th player

Sylvia is in his prime, and could be All Australian Ruckman next year, so yes trading Jamar is a great idea.

Use the first round pick we get for Jamar to draft a forward to replace Jurrah, who is almost at his peak and it's time to move him on.

Whether his form will drop or not im not a big fan of just giving players the flick when they seem to be loosing form or on the way as if their robots that just play football, i hated the fact that people where willing to trade Green a while ago.

These are the players i come to see every weekend and really love to watch.

In reply to the O.P their is no way he will be traded anyway.

Port traded Burgoyne for pick 9 and 16, I believe.

I see what you're saying, but I don't think it would be good for morale.

In fact, it'd be downright disasterous.

Great suggestion by the OP.

Lets package him up with Green and Frawley. I mean they are all AA.

FMD. There are some crud threads at this time of year. It will take some beating.

So you want to trade a ruckman who has finally reach his potentially?

Fail thread.

When I look at Jamar, I see Clark Keating in 2002/03.

In the first quarter of a grand final, when pressure is high and skills are low, a powerhouse who is all "do, don't think" is very valuable to have on your side.

Posted

I think we should trade anyone who wasn't a part of our last Premiership.

Very good thinking and no doubt the discussion will be had by the powers at be. Whether it eventuates is a less likely outcome. But I think if we have the chance to get a top 10 pick we would probably jump at it. The only real issue is that we dont have any ruckmen to take his spot.
