The only ones he got wrong were Bartram and Bail, and even they were in the right ballpark...

One of the most pleasing things about this year is watching the Bruce-bashers make complete tools of themselves, pathetically trying to hold onto their prejudice, showing them as the down-syndrome members of demonland they really are, and always have been.

I'm not an all-time "Bruce basher", I thought his first half of the year was poor by his standards but his last 5 or 6 games were fantastic once Bailey let him utilise his strengths in a role that suited him. Like Bartram, Dunn, and Green, Bruce has benefited from a role change during the year (thank god our experimentation period is pretty much over), I just didn't like certain things about his game TODAY.

Thinking certain players are beyond reproach is a problem that we should be past in the post-Daniher era. Respect but honesty huh.

I'd say Scully's endurance, work effort, reading of the play and reflexes’ are elite, his disposal by hand and foot are not. I'd like to know how many of his disposals hit a teammate on the chest, uncontested, at pace, to advantage, I'd say very few. Really needs to work on it if he is to be top class in my opinion.

I said it last week and I’ll say it this week, send him back to Casey to work on his disposal in the slower pace game. He has moved straight from juniors to AFL and too much is expected of him, the intermediate comp might help him work on his weaknesses.

Scully is a phenomenal athlete, super fit, and an honest hard working footballer. Agree to a point about his disposal, but I think he is good enough to be in our senior 22, and after a proper pre-season will show vast improvement, so all a run with Casey will do is slow him down. Would much rather have Bailey teaching him on the boundary than have him playing with second tier players, better learning curve, just look at the improvement of Frawley, Jones, and Bartram, all guys that early on were struggling in certain areas but Bailey has been able to teach them at AFL level due to them consistently being in the team.

Let's not become Essendon and let our guys actually play when they deserve to.

Ummm. No. I didn't say anything like that. You quoted 4 players' comments in the OP and gave criticism. I thought he had them right, but said that Bail and Bartram were probably not quite as on the money as usual. Don't put words in my mouth.

For what it's worth, I thought Bail did have a good game but I'm getting frustrated a bit by his frees against, and thought that needed to be mentioned. Bartram played ok as well, but his disposal hurt us more than it usually does... Still deserved some credit though.

Like what? I don't think it's ridiculous to suggest that keeping up with one of this year's Brownlow fancies, while gettting a heap of it yourself is a superb effort.

Now this is what pisses me off. I can be EQUALLY as frustrated... in fact moreso... with peoples' frenzied desire to scapegoat a player, as you are with others desire to consider them "beyond reproach." Bruce has had one or two issues, particularly with his disposal. But the truth is, during the last few years, his worst is still better than a lot of other players normal games. I didn't say ANYWHERE that he's beyond reproach. What I'm saying is the hatred shown towards him has been absurdly imbalanced. If you're not one of these all-time Bruce bashers, then good on you, but I'd suggest if you think his earlier season form were "poor" then you are, at least in part, a Bruce basher. He's been great all year. You could count on one hand his "poorer" games. If you're asking more than that, well then you just don't know enough about footy to be passing comment.

Bail - Solid running contribution

Bartram - the good ..(overall games ) the bad..disposal..

Bennell - some great endeavour...needs to be more consistent..getting there

Bruce - A very good game.. needed to stay on Hodge ( not his fault )

Davey - bugger

Dunn - they worked him out... He can bounce back

Frawley - work cut out.. some woeful umping. Great effort

Garland - hmm..bit rusty off the foot there Col

Green - was covered well for the most part

Jamar - Stellar...simply great

Johnson - a few good bits.. needs far more

Jones - good game... keep at it

Jurrah - Glimpses of brilliance.. not really his day though

JoelMacDonald - surely no more doubters

JnrMcDonald - keeps on keeping on

Rivers - Some good ..some not so good. ( sorry just not convinced here )

Scully -pepetual motion...needs inmproved foot disposals

Trengove - good but not great game.. Looking forward to next season

By his own lofty standards, Hodge had a poor one and Bruce played a great game. But as good sides so regularly do, their stars chip in when it counts. Hodge was dour and kicked 2 crucial goals when the game was still in the balance. The difference, as already cited, was the harder and more mature bodies of Hawthorn in the end. I never enjoy losing, but walked away heartened by our obvious potential.

As for the umpires??????????? Yes, never blame the umps for a loss, but I do blame them for damaging the overall spectacle and their lack of feel for the game. Atrocious.
