Uh... Don't we have to actually own Casey Fields to be making off another team playing there?

I thought it was owned by the City of Casey.

Not sure of the situation... Would highly doubt that they would have sold the land to us... we have probably leased it.... Someone may be able to shine a light on this...

Even still, if it enables more money to be generated for the City of Casey Council it will have a significant positive impact on the local community, which in turn will be positive for us as they are our adopted local community...

Yep, Casey own the land. There was a parcel of land at the ground (casey scorp knows the exact details, my post will be very rough info) initially muted as on offer to the Dees as part of the 30 year deal, not sure if we were paying for it or not. The parcel of land offer was quashed during council elections as local councilors were running an anti Dees ticket and the parcel of land was the most easily attacked portion of the deal, you know, rate payer assets to the wealthy AFL type thing.

Anyway, that's where I get my "wouldn't it be good to have a financial stake in Casey Fields from". It was once on offer to some degree. I once thought that maybe the MCC would be in a position to move on this with the Dees benefiting in there somehow financially but no.

The Dees and Casey to have a joint financial arrangement would have some merit

I like the idea of the Dees playing there. We will ALWAYS be dependant on the good graces of the MCC. They run the MCG trust for the benifit of the MCG trust as they should. It would be good if we had a financial stake in a ground where we benefited from match-day catering, signage and advertising, carpark fees etc etc etc

For those that think it is too far out, well, we don't all live in Toorak :-P

Edit: If it was developed and we had a financial stake in it, other teams could play there and we could theoretically make money from it while not even playing there

As another mentions wed only be there a couple of games during th eseason proper when wed struggle to anyone else there but could reap serious dividends from gates and concessionaires etc..

Its not about relocating the club or abandoning the G or undoing all the good work etc..its a possibility to expand the brand. A thriving social venue in an up and coming area ( looking beyond the immediate ) has got to have more upside than the curretn Leighoak and Bentleigh venues...which meanwhat exactly to anyone ??

The club is obviously looking to invest somewhere...and the puprose of this thread was to note there is an elction and polies just love to throw away money...so why not be on the receiving end of some.

ridiculous idea... we're making money at the G, we keep playing there, not 45km from the middle of the city...

we've got our programs out at casey, we play a challenge game there each year, that's enough...

How much do you want to lobby the government for to build an asset, BB ? As much as it will take to build a 15,000 seat stadium ?

Stranger things have happened... Any idea sounds absurd in it's early stages such as the notion that members of the club would eradicate $5 million of debt. Where there is a will there is a way. If Casey really is a community that is set for continuous growth in population, ideas like these need to start to be instigated now for the long term otherwise timewise, ideas like this run out of puff.

Based on your $1.9million figure (not saying that is what it will cost).

We have a contract for 10x10x10 years at Casey. Within the first ten years I am more than sure both the local council, the state government and the Melbourne football club can raise $2million dollars. The opening of the new Casey 15,000 stadium with the start if our second ten year arrangement.

No one is saying let's go a spend $2million now but we need to be thinking of ways to create assets for the future with a board that has had such a positive impact on the club.

It was scuttled during pre council election argy bargy but could be resurrected just as easily. Once we are performing and are the darlings of the AFL and media who knows what doors could open up for our club. I trust that the current board could capitalise on any opportunities that come our way. The proviso of course would be that it was mutually beneficial to Casey council, residents, the Dees and the AFL

Given our attachment and arrangements at the MCG, I have yet to see a plausible plan for why we would want to develop Casey as a "boutique" stadium when its a far out location, limited attendance capacity and a sub standard VFL playing surface.

The surface at Casey is one of the best on the country.

Well I will eat my words, the surface looks terrible from TV which is a real surprise to me. Every other time that I have seen the ground it has been immaculate.

Owning something and almost having an opportunity to own something are two very different things.

So it is not an issue to spend millions on a boutique stadium we may only use 1-2 a year.

The problem for Melbourne is that they have the lowest supporter base and it won't grow substantially if they just rely on the MCG connection. Casey provides an opportunity to grow the supporter base while still having the MCG connection.

This argument has been done to death but for low drawing games I would prefer (in an ideal world) for Melbourne to play at Casey rather than say Canberra, Darwin or Tasmania.
