u overplayed watts but the rest were close

we are really strugglin atm and need a good story soon

lets hope we look at bail, jurrah, sylvia and morton for next week

Grumpy analysis today! :o

Garland was very good for mine. He oozes class and is a very smart player. Incredibly happy to have him back on the field!

And McKenzie was terrific too.

Watts was not our best, but he was very good. He played in front of his opponent all day, he ran hard, he put himself in the contests and his set shot on goal is orgasmic. He is obviously a lot fitter now than 4 or even 2 weeks ago, because he makes more contests and runs harder. Though hopefully he spends less time on the wing and more down in the forward 50 from next season onwards.

And while there have been some terrible injuries this weekend, and some heartbreaking ones too, I'm pretty shattered about Grimesy. Stupid f'ing Etihad surface! :(

Bartram - has exhausted welcome - should have a spell at Casey but not exhausted.

Bate - had no influence - well, yeah

Bennell - rarely gave whimper - bit hard when it's hardly in his area. Ok when it was

Bruce - excellent first half - used the ball better than most games this year

Davey - rarely showed interest - good with the ball, wouldn't have known where Jones was though

Dunn - lively and involved - playing his role well.

Frawley - kept at task - better than Milne in 1 on 1's but let him slip badly at a couple of thrown in's.

Garland - was rarely noticed - could've been better

Green - still all class - yep

Grimes - injured and missed - yep....DEVASTATED! :(

Jamar - had little influence - beaten well early and worked hard to have more touches & almost double hitouts than Gardiner

Jetta - did almost nothing - his lack of influence is increasing by the week

Jones - taught a lesson - struggled

MacDonald - tough but slow - tries hard, turns it over

Moloney - displays diminishing zest - works hard, good in the contests, looks slow at times

Rivers - milestone to forget - Riv's struggling a bit

Scully - was rarely noticed - looked a bit tired today skull

Trengove - a rare winner - looked like game 113 not 13 for Trengove, he is a star

Watts - our best player - no that was Trengove but doing some better things each week, not killing it & needs to go harder, goal from 50 in 2nd all class

McKenzie - overwhelmed by class - harsh, wrong assessment that! 24 touches, 5 tackles and one of our better players

Spencer - an underwhelming display - uncoordinated, could be more damaging if was less unco

I will have a crack.

Bartram - kicking ability lacking

Bate - well shut down

Bennell - glimpses of class

Bruce - excellent first half

Davey - lazy lazy lazy

Dunn - kept on presenting

Frawley - better than looked

Garland - getting better weekly

Green - did job quietly

Grimes - missed his nous

Jamar - games best ruckman

Jetta - out for sylvia

Jones - good learning curve

MacDonald - attacks every contest

Moloney - hard and important

Rivers - nothing worth noting

Scully - quiet but classy

Trengove - looks a veteran

Watts - showing promising signs

McKenzie - won seven clearances

Spencer - unnecessary next week

Bartram - has exhausted welcome

Bate - had no influence

Bennell - rarely gave whimper

Bruce - excellent first half

Davey - rarely showed interest

Dunn - lively and involved

Frawley - kept at task

Garland - was rarely noticed

Green - still all class

Grimes - injured and missed

Jamar - had little influence

Jetta - did almost nothing

Jones - taught a lesson

MacDonald - tough but slow

Moloney - displays diminishing zest

Rivers - milestone to forget

Scully - was rarely noticed

Trengove - a rare winner

Watts - our best player

McKenzie - overwhelmed by class

Spencer - an underwhelming display

Try these:

Davey - can hit targets

Watts - craps himself sometimes

Moloney - couldn't get free

Jetta - what's he thinking?

I wonder why Dunn has started to hit some form?

Maybe, because he is being played as a forward now.

Lynden, you can thank the MFC for wasting the past 2 years of your football life.

Jaded has nailed it with regards to Watts. He's looking much fitter than his debut game where he was knackered after about 10 minutes. Today was probably his best game for the club, not a break out game but a game to build on for sure.

Agree, game to build on. Should play evey week from now on (which I am sure is the plan). Hopefully will spend more time closer to goal with each week. Good that he is working hard up the ground to become involved.

Yep. He seems to learn something each week. I was happy with most of his work today.

I hope the last two years has been a very good development period for him. He is just showing that he could make it as a forward.

I would say that the last two years have taught him a huge amount about defensive work. That will stand him in good stead as he is asked to take on the rebounding defenders week after week and shut them down while still scoring a goal or two himself. It's a good role for him and he could be very good for us filling it.

I was at the game, and have the following to add:

Jamar was solid, but failed to dominate.

Watts worked hard, and was a target to kick to. He is building some form and is looking good.

Dunn is starting to lock down a forward role in this team- he is here to stay.

If it was not for Bate's red hair, I would not have known he was playing. He was owned by the saints backline.

Spencer is too weak/slow for AFL, and lacks the skills to really warrant selection..........he is still the second best ruckman on our list as at todays date. Will get another contracted offer for 1 year, not sure from there.

Jetta goes missing far too often. Can look good when he has it in his hands, but that is rare.

Garland and the back six were under siege, he dealt with it head on and came out on top.

Here, I'll have a shot

Bartram - unconvincing display today

Bate - was rarely sighted

Bennell - showed some class

Bruce - hitting some form

Cheney - not his best

Davey - up and down

Dunn - contested very well

Frawley - good solid game

Garland - will be fantastic

Green - still got it

Grimes - great before injury

Jamar - quieter than normal

Jetta - hello there Casey

Jones - made some mistakes

MacDonald - best game yet?

McKenzie - great contested work

Moloney - rarely got it

Rivers - didn't do much

Scully - a quiet game

Spencer - see Neville Jetta

Trengove - best for Melbourne

Watts - improved his game

Cheney - Punched Goddard. Keeper. :D

I'd give him the B&F now had he punched Milne.

Bartram - unconvincing display today

Bate - hair, not there.

Bennell - not enough sherrin

Bruce - no noticeable clangers

Cheney - Can do better

Davey - tried but failed

Dunn - some promising signs

Frawley - Not his best

Garland - some good kick-ins

Green - pushing for All-Australian

Grimes - an unfortunate injury

Jamar - hitouts to disadvantage

Jetta - much like Bennell

Jones - opponent ran wild

MacDonald - much needed muscle

McKenzie - battled really well

Moloney - good contested work

Rivers - didn't do much

Scully - hardly saw him

Spencer - has no skills

Trengove - in our best

Watts - finally got leather

Melbourne: Need better footskills

they said on fox sports that scully had his wisdom teeth out over the break and lost 3kg may be why he seemed a bit tired

I thought Watts was quite good today.

Bartram - missing in action

Bate - running in quicksand

Bennell - does have pace

Bruce - experience shone through

Cheney - fixated on Goddard

Davey - not much presence

Dunn - must improve kicking

Frawley - hands were full

Garland - needs to mark

Green - needs more presence

Grimes - injured from ground ?

Jamar - cost's us sometimes

Jetta - nice solid bumps

Jones - chased Lenny's dust

MacDonald - jury is out

McKenzie - well done son

Moloney - poor disposals frustrate

Rivers - did his job

Scully - reasonably quiet overall

Spencer - ground level weakness

Trengove - best for dees

Watts - composure is evident

Trengove - Best by a mile.

Dunn - Gave all, was super.

Garland - defended well, 3 goal line spoils.

Jetta - what does he offer?

Bruce - Years best game.

Scully - lost 4 wisdom teeth and 3kg over break and it showed.

Mckenzie - one more hard uncompromising game.

Frawley - other than 2 brain fades did very well on Milne.

Gosh, if he OP's views on each player are correct, how in hell did we stay competitive for 3 quarters?

Come on, a bit more positiveness won't ruin your week of moaning.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
