Wow. These caught me off guard.

Didn't think Gysberts would get dropped.

My money is on McDonald or Cheney.

I hope Cheney.

Melbourne

B: Clint Bartram, Matthew Warnock, James Frawley

HB: Colin Garland, Jared Rivers, Jack Grimes

C: Brad Green, Jack Trengove, Cameron Bruce

HF: Cale Morton, Matthew Bate, Tom Scully

F: Neville Jetta, Brad Miller, Aaron Davey

Foll: Mark Jamar, Brent Moloney, Nathan Jones

I/C (from): Joel Macdonald, Jordie McKenzie, Jack Watts, Lynden Dunn, Jamie Bennell, Kyle Cheney, Jake Spencer

In: Macdonald, Cheney, Spencer, Bennell

Out: Jordan Gysberts

Hoping for a bench of McKenzie, Watts, Dunn, Bennell.

Don't want to see Spencer, and to be honest I'm not sure MacDonald should be in.

Despite him doing close to nothing on QBW I'm disappointed Gysberts got the chop.

Gysberts has to be the stiffest kid in town!

Then keep puzzling ... one big difference between Miller and Bell/Johnson is that he's in the leadership group.

Perhaps people who work/play alongside Brad have a different, even a better persepective, on what he brings to the team?

Gysberts has to be the stiffest kid in town!

No he doesn't.

His disposal lets him down and he needs to work on it as well as a few other things.

Good that he got a taste, now he knows what's required.

There was an article the other day about what stats AFL coaches believe are valuable etc. Jordie has shown us

he can find the ball, but he hasn't shown us that he can use it well.

Learn the game.

Yeah, think your bet would be safe with Cheney over McDonald, given the latter has already been ruled out, and not even named in the 25...(LOL)

He is not the greatest. But kicked 2 and had a goal assist in our last game. In a forward line like ours it should be able to buy you another week shouldn't it? Who else will be taking his position?

Agree Rhino on the Miller point.....Jurrah is lurking and I imagine another 2-3 weeks he will be close to an inclusion so Miller, Watts & Dunn will be on notice.

Cannot agree with Stevethemanjordan. Just cannot agree with it in any way.

Gysberts was put under close attention by Collingwood, very close attention. If his disposal was that bad where a comment such as 'learn the game' was warranted, why would Collingwood want to stop him getting it????? Not sure they would bother if he was a mule. I would also add that it can be difficult to be so clean when you are in the middle of a pack pumping it out as he did 25 times in his first two games.

He has had a week off, now will have two and IMO this puts him right back for the year.

If you saw what I saw standing out at Willy you could not possibly.....ah enough said, just stick to my own humble opinion which is....a terrible omission :(

could not give a stuff about spudly miller in our leadership group....so are u all saying that u wud prefer a spud with good leadership skills than a good player without leadership skills.....for as far as im concerned bate, watts, n dunny r all the tall timber we need in our forwardline....brad millers career is over!

On Casey form last weekend, none of Spencer, Cheney or Bennell deserve to come into the side. Cheney has been in good form in previous weeks from all reports, however I think Macdonald will come in before him.

One change for mine. If another does occur I think it will be Bennell coming in for a bit of pace and dash on the AAMI spaces.

Why do you do that? You didn't have to insult him. And I doubt your knowledge of the game is that much superior to his anyway.

His opinion is that Gysberts was unlucky to be dropped. Yours is that he wasn't. Next time just leave it at that.

His opinion is that Gysberts was unlucky to be dropped. Yours is that he wasn't. Next time just leave it at that.

There are 2 types of youngsters imo.

1. There are some youngsters who are not complete players upon entry into afl. They need to develop certain skills (e.g. defensive skills, kicking skills) and add parts to their game (learn how to run through the midfield if you're a small forward). These players benefit from time in the vfl, where they can be given set tasks, and work on specific areas of their game without worrying about the results.

2. There are other youngsters who have all the skills upon being drafted (though they might not have an afl ready body), and simply need games at afl level to fast track their ability to impact on afl games and to gain experience at the top level.

Players in category 1: Strauss, Cheney, Gysberts

Players in category 2: Scully, Trengove, Watts, Morton

That is why imo it's not the end of the world for Gysberts. He now has a taste. He needs to work on his kicking and decision making. He'll be a good player

Typo - MacDonald.

Not sure what why people have the hots for Cheney.

I have seen him a number of times at Casy and a few times he has played in the seniors.

He is a goer and always gives 100% but he is just a little short in the speed area,

Unfortunately he is a good VFL player who is a battler at Senior level.

IMO he will never be more than stop gap guy when the injury list lenghtens.

How can you rule a line through Cheney already? He's only played 12 games FFS.

If he was taken at Draft Pick 1, and Jack Watts was taken at pick 53, everyone would be saying give him time

to develop and delist Watts as he hasnt shown anything. The Football Department gave him a contract extension,

so they obviously see something in him.

WOW I actually got a prediction right. I suggested in the other thread that MacDonald could come back in given he wasn't sighted for Casey last weekend, and that Gysberts would be the one going out.

Not sure about this angst towards Miller...

If we went into 2011 with Watts and Jurrah as our focal points out of the square they're going to get mashed. He may be the luckiest player in the AFL as Dermie put it, but he's certainly required.

still puzzling why they keep pesisting with brad spudly miller....he is no different from daniel bell or paul johnson.....simply cant play

Why do Collingwood keep playing Leigh Brown? Why do the dogs keep playing Mitch Hahn? Simple they play a role in their team, they provide

a physical presence and every couple of weeks chip in with a goal or two. Neither of these players get 20+ posessions a game, thats not

their role. While Miller is not exempt from goalkicking responsibilities, we're not asking or expecting him to kick 3 goals a game. His role

is to lead up the ground, provide a mobile and strong target on the wings and flanks, and to also get back in the goalsquare to provide a contest

and help some of our younger players learn the game. He's clearly in the leadership group for a reason, and thats not because he's a Nick

Riewoldt-esque all-marking/goalkicking superstar, but because he plays a very solid role as a team player.

So in your opinion what is main claim to fame?

Cheney has had no claims to fame so far, he's played half a dozen games and is still learning the caper at AFL level. The analogy with

Watts is to show the differing expectations and patience with developement of different players, a lot of it purely based on where they

are drafted.

When a player in a similar position on the field such as Daniel Bell has been on our list for eight years, I think its safe to say he has

deficiencies and will not make it as a league footballer. It is far too early to be ruling a line through Cheney.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
