Another draw with Collingwood

Thats makes two draws I have been to the MCG to see Our Mighty Demons play out against Collingwood, first one 1957!!! A long bloody time ago, I do remember seeing the backs of many peoples legs. Mum and Dad took my brother, a Pies fan, (spit spit) and myself to the big clash, both top teams of course then! Dad didn't have a team, didn't follow Aussie rules, Mum barracks for Carlton(more split spit)

Mum was happy because neither of us were disappointed while stomping back up the track to Jolimont station. Actually Dad bought me one of those Red and Blue stick things that had red and blue streamers on it which I waved around peoples ears, would have driven people nuts with that thing.

I remember my favourite players at the time were Athol Webb and Geoff Case apart from John Beckwith and Ron Barassi of course, Bluey Adams was also a favourite, there were so many great players then to choose from.

I have the same sense now as then, we have many young stars in the making. Then, they were in the middle of their domination and I wished I had been a bit older to appreciate that time. But now I much more confident of a second bite of the cherry to experience another great era.

I must confess I have not been too enthusiastic about our teams prospects until now, but there has been many false dawns through the decades since then, but this group we have now, well I think we are all in for exciting times , truly !!!!

Actually Dad confessed to being a Collingwood fan on his death bed or what he thought then as his death bed, he lasted another 8 years!!!!!

I spent a major part of that game in 1957 collecting beer cans so I could stack them up to stand on so I could see some of the game. we were in the standing area at the back of ground level of the Olympic stand.

How good was it too see Frank Bluey Adams walk onto the MCG yesterday. 6 Flags he played in. Just think about that for a bit.

I got a lump in my throat seeing those guys out there yesterday, each standing there with a little demon supporter.

When i was growing up i only remember Bluey on "Football Inquest" or as a Commentator.

It wasn't till i read about his famous coming together with Des Healy that i realized he was a Demon Player.

But to see Frank out there yesterday made me so bloody proud of what Stynesy & co have done to this club.

We are again proud of who we are, who we were & who we are Becoming.

Take notice AFL we are almost BACK B)

The Pies are beating themselves up something terrible. And they reckon the Tigers eat their own!! Nothing better than to see the Pies supporters turn even more feral than normal. Here's a few quotes from http://www.magpies.net/nick/:

"I have had enough. I just dropped $50 on a Pies jumper for my 1 year old today. Someone explian to me why I would subject him to this time after time after time after time...

I have had enough. This team is insipid. Diamond Creek reserves would've kicked straighter today.

It's the same ol' story and nothing ever changes. Memo the coaching staff: It's no use whinging about how Melbourne seem to get themselves up for this game every year and how it's "their grand final". Here's an idea - how about WE *&^*(&%$% treat it like it's a grand final??

Will we actually make the *&^*(&%$% last day in September and whinge about how the other team were playing as if it was a grand final?

Bunch of softcocks and [censored] we are. This current team has no hope of winning a premiership. None. We are all living in la la land."

"any chance we could play a fwd who at least leads towards the ball carrier? just a pathetic fwd display by the boys, fraser can NEVER be allowed to play in the seniors again and if he does, mick needs to be sacked, fraser is a liability who we can do without, no doubting that anymore people."

"I love our zone. It so effective, especially when the opposition kicks out from our behinds. (that was sarcasm). Mick, your time is up."

"We were just giving Melbourne the 2 points we owed them from round 1."

(I know - they can't count up to round 2)

"I reckon the Socceroos would have beaten us today.

How did we pinch 2 points?"

"another [censored] poor effort. we are not a serious contender for the premiership. i still rate the 2 top teams as the saints and geelong and we cant compete with either of them. hope we dont meet the dees in the finals, they'll be a good chance to roll us next time. i've lost all confidence in our side."

I think the honour goes to Jamar to throw another Molotov on the fire....

Apologies D666 and WYL - in hindsight it brings down the noble tone of your original posts...

No No it's marvellous to witness the Pies Eating themselves & self destructing.

They do represent the MOST over rated organization on the Planet Collingwood....... B)

According to this page: http://stats.rleague.com/afl/seas/1957.html the drawn match in 1957 was played in Round 13, Saturday 13th July at Victoria Park.

It wouldn't surprise me because I was only 6 years old. Its through my mothers memorys of the day and result but I do remember going to Victoria park in hindsight and fleeting memories of passages of play on the day glimpsed through peoples legs.

Was a really entertaining match to watch. The amount of scoring shots the pies had was insane but at least dees were more accurate. Pity Miller missed those ones at the end. He presented him self well just could not convert. Wonder when Jamar will have a match like that again

Anyway at least the dees walk away with some points on the ladder.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
