GC-17 may have to trade some early picks to get the necessary experienced & hardened bodies to complement the raft of young guns they will recruit this year. "The Gold Coast will have picks 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft as well as being able to pick a dozen 17-year-olds from this season who are not eligible for the 2009 draft."

IMO, we need to still recruit more small quick & nimble players, > a small defender type & one or two quickish small nimble on-ball/forwards to complement our list.

We have Cheney, a powerful small-medium defender & we have Strauss whom I think will come on. I reckon we need to complement these 2 with another who can take that slippery small goal kicking type.

Also I think we need to grab a couple more small nippy goal kickers to have coming through our list for the next 3 year time span.

All may not go to plan & some may just not quite become the best small goal kickers that we need, so lets get a couple more.

Does anyone agree?

Uhh... Even if we trade for picks we need to use them in an intelligent manner.

See sig (surprisingly still comes in handy even at this time of year)

Why cant we draft what few remaining gaps the MFC Footy dept think we have from our draft picks this year?

Essentially, the MFC players that other teams would like to have are generally the players we want to keep.

I also expect there will be plenty of "trade bait" suggestions from posters who significantly overvalue their "baits", drastically underestimate the intelligence of other clubs and reveal a complete lack of knowledge of the mechanics and nuances of trading. Something along the lines of GC will offer early picks for Miller becuase he came from Queensland. And we should get a 2nd round pick for a mobile ruckman like Meesen and an experienced forward like Newton.

Agree. I see our main priority as another key forward. There should be someone available at our pick. That still means though some time needed for the player to develop.

I have posted a few times on the need to find a younger, Podsiadly, Leigh Brown type of player who is a little older with experience in senior football and a strong body. There has got to be a few around in the various state leagues and they usually go for a low pick. If we could draft one who can play a few years it will help take the pressure off guys like Watts, Fitzpatrick and any new KPF picked this year and next. It looks fairly certain Newton and Meesen will go and maybe even Miller off the main list so that will leave a couple of rookie spots and a senior one for a key forward.

I posted this in another thread but it's probably more relevant here.

I could see Jared Rivers being trade bait for GC at the end of this year. I don't say this because I don't rate Riv, quite the opposite. I rate him very highly, and I feel like GC might as well. Since we have excellent depth in this part of our set-up and he offers GC a quality, experienced player with plenty of years left, it seems like the kind of trade that might get done.

However, I would be bitterly disappointed to see Riv go for 'nothing' (ie. whatever convoluted compensation deal that can't be used until 2012 gets formulated for GC poaching.)

Jack Darling?

Doubt he'll slip that far. We can dream.

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
