Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Alwyn Davey - Melbourne 2011

Im not trying to start a rumour nor have I heard one. My mind has just been pondering the thought of MFC recruiting Alwyn Davey. Aaron is a very passionate player whose dream is to run out on the ground with all the other indigenous players in our side ( wouldn’t we love to see LJ and Wonna together). And im taking a fair punt in saying that I’m sure that both Alwyn and Aaron have a dream to play together in the same side or at least entertained the idea over some bush tucker.

Now Aaron is an important player at our club both for the leadership group and a mentor for the indigenous boys, im sure he could pull a few strings at the club, for them to at least consider the idea.

Now would be a great time for Alwyn to come over, Im sure he doesn’t want to be stuck in the bombers sinking ship, especially with the GC17 & GWS coming in, Essendon could be there for a very long time.

Just to make this a little bit more interesting, Alwyns contract finishes at the end of this year.

So do you think the MFC would take him?

Would he want to come?

Do we want or need him is a bigger question? If Aussie stays fit and plays good footy and / or Benny takes a few more chances that work for him (and I think they will start doing that) where would you fit him in? And what would you pay for him?

Alwyn Davey LOL

You gotta be kidding.

This reply is about as predictable as this thread.

I would take alwyn over wonna, and at this stage Neville and maric. Which is not to say that these players won't one day be better maybe, just that alwyn has runs on the board. That said I don't think Alwyn would really be at the front of our recruiting department's mind.

Well we through the kitchen sink at him 2 years ago to try and get him through the pre season draft.

I think he would go better at Melbourne but as to how damaging he would be remains a bit of an unknown.

Dennis Commetti made the comment the other night that he is more effective when he doesn't have the ball that when he does.

Alwyn may have great frontal pressure skills but he aint a great kick like his brother and his decision making leaves much to be desired .

No.

The MFC is not a family repatriation service.

And its aan unfair comparison of Davey with Maric, Jetta and Wonna.

Davey is older and should have more runs on the board than players who have either young, been chronically injury or have less than 2 years football experience.

At this point there is no surity than any of them offer a long term AFL proposition to MFC.

On current value, wonna is behind Alwyn because Wonna is injured. Fair? No, but footy isn't fair. Fit I would rather have Wonna than Alwyn.

I am beginning to lose faith in his hamstrings.

It's funny, the only game I've ever been to at Etihad was last year against the bombers in Jurrah's first match and i was taking great pleasure in yelling out "you'll never be as good as your brother!" whenever Alwyn had the footy and hearing a mob of deluded essendon suuporters yelling back to the contrary.

Seriously, I wonder what they all think now.

Last year he was coming back from injury & they were all convinced he was the second coming.

For me it all comes down to price. If you had to trade a good player or an early draft pick then the answer would be no. However if you are talking Bell, Miller or a late draft pick I would do it in a heartbeat. This could only happen if he falls out of favour at Essendon which would reduce his trade value and the club believes they could get a better return from Alwyn than he currently provides.

Alwyn had his chance to join his brother at the end of 2009 and chose to stay with the bombers. He is also potentially once of the most overrated players in football. Doubt he would get a game for us. Next.

As RR rightly pointed we are not a repat centre nor he would not get a game with us now let alone in the future. With midfielders a plenty right now which includes the possibilities of these players running through the centre: Bail,Bartram*,Bell*,Bennell, Blease, Bruce**,Aaron Davey,Dunn,Green, Grimes,Gysberts,Jetta,Tapscott,Trengove,McKenzie Jones,Maric,MCDonald**,Moloney,Scully, Strauss, Sylvia, as well as Jack Viney to come I think we have enough smalls to cover Midfield and small forward positions.

Furthermore, he trained with us --and we did not pick him up.We were supposed to have offer him to come to us again and he knocked us back. He cannot get a regular game with Essendon - SO WHY WE?

GO DEES and furthermore Aaron would try to feed him to get a kick rather than -What he does sometimes now- look after the indigenous players instead of other players in better positions.

* = possible delisting next year or next

** = possible retirement, next year or the following.

I would have no problem picking him up in the NAB draft for a late pick

or the pre season draft.

Bar injuries, he is a very valuable player.

Once again, no brainers on this site just cannot and will not see any value in a player

that is not wearing a red and blue jumper.

I wonder what you all thought of Joel Mac before he was picked up by the dees? If I had asked

anyone what they thought of trying to get him to the dees last season, I can only imagine what the response would be.....

Alwyn is a very good and dangerous player when fully fit. His issues with injuries is the only question mark I would

have in determining whether or not we should go for him.

Nothing worse than ignorant and biased Melbourne supporters.

So valuable, in fact, that he's a peripheral player in a pretty ordinary Essendon side, even when not (perpetually) injured. I think it's you that needs to take the rose coloured glasses off, not us. He's JASF (just another small forward). If his surname wasn't Davey I doubt anyone would be all that interested.

And FWIW I was stoked that we picked up Joel Macdonald as I did rate him previously.

Well posted Nasher..furthermore Joel was a player that fitted into our team needs. He is a defender that can play in many positions and experienced in doing so.The Oz felt he was a round 2 pick up..On current form Alwyn would not get a game in the Senior team..

He has had injuries as I said. I'm sure you are smart enough to know that players have ups and downs and

sometimes need a change of scenery to reignite their career.

I believe that Alwyn would flourish in a new environment. A new team such as Melbourne who's prospects

are so positive and exciting and to play with his brother. Do I really need to explain that?

Yes it may be a risk and he may not turn out but ffs the upside far outweighs the down if we were

to get him for next to nothing.

And FWIW I was stoked that we picked up Joel Macdonald as I did rate him previously.

Easy to say in hindsight. He has reignited his career at the dee's it seems. Voss dropped

him for the first final. Where are all you posters that state, "I will take the opinion of an expert over yours"?

Honestly.

Congrats to you Nasher if you rated him previously.

Joel fitted into our teams needs?

He has added experience to the backline and that's it. We have plenty of backs? Rivers playing for Casey this week is proof.

We got him because he was the only worthwhile pickup in the pre season draft. A number of positions? Where else could he play?

On Joel's form last year, nobody would have said he would get a game at Melbourne !!!! Nobody !!!

It's not about current form jayceebee.

Discussed it over some bush tucker???? They're from Darwin...

In any event, all the points made above are valid and true. MFC & Aaron tried hard to get him across a couple of years ago and he turned us down. Now he struggles for a game in an ordinary team and we have Aaron, Jetta, Bennell, Wona already.

I'd take Alwyn if Aaron could get into the coaching panels ear and prove to them somehow that he could bring about the same quality of disposal that the elder has been delivering for a couple of seasons now.

At best it would be speculative, but given how little there will be in the draft for a side that could possibly be finals bound, I wouldn't be completely against putting him on the list.

I always feel as though we miss Aaron in the forward line (though not for the last 4 weeks)... having another Davey to put in the forward pocket to do what Aaron USED to do would be pretty awesome.

I say yes to Alwyn, with a raft of Caveats.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
