I have not heard him on the radio or in the press for a while.

Has any body heard him speak or noticed a press article, where he has been quoted?

Posted

It's been a pleasant change has it not?

Not at all . He is so passionate about the club and bleeds for it . Why are we better off without hearing from him ?

He has been too busy looking at recruiting a couple of tall players for next year- I guess after the stuff ups in recruiting over the last two years in not obtaining Nic Nat & Lewis Jetta as a rookie.

You're in fine form again John.

When will you make a worthwhile contribution and stop embarrassing yourself with statements like that..?

Embarrassing call in the extreme. Ridiculous comment.

I know jayceebee quite well, and he continues to reassure me that Jack Watts will be a very good player for us, as i have my concerns. Whether or not what he said above was tongue in cheek or not, i don't know, as it is so hard to convey tone through writing. However, he is a staunch supporter and believer in Jack Watts.

I think what jayceebee is referring to with the Natanui comment, is that we really did ourselves no favours in winning 5 games back in 2007. We could have picked up both Watts and Natanui if we'd 'list managed' a little better in 2007.

But then all these other possibilities wouldn't have come about, such as Sam Blease and would have we won fewer than 5 games last year if we had of had him?

I have noticed however, whenever Natanui is mentioned on MFC boards, everybody gets extremely defensive. Everyone on this board realises that there's an elephant in the room, but simply refuses to acknowledge it. I hope Jack Watts becomes a great player, better than NicNat would be great, but no one can deny that Natanui will become a very good AFL player. If you do, you're just living in dream land. It's as simple as that.

If that is the case re: his post, he should have stated the last three years and not "last two" perhaps.

Correct. Different scenario may have eventuated. We might not have both Scully & Trengove either... ?

I can understand those protecting the club and good on 'em. The bottom line is J.Watts is an 18 yo kid at the start of his career. No one is deep down denying Nik Nat won't be good. It's my contention that many - like myself - are trying to communicate that it's way to premature to judge these two kids. As exciting as Nik Nat is, Watts is unfairly copping trash and Mfc supporters who are defensive - realise that and are aware that he is coming back from injury. Yet soehow this seems to be buried when Nik Nat taps one down to his fellow mids...

How quickly people forget that the club was going to be patient with him in his development. They stated very early on not to expect much footy from him once drafted.

I've got an out-of-the-box thought on this...

Maybe CC is busy working.

When you're winning you don't need to have the spruik-o-meter set to 11.

Yep spot on Rogue, was going to say the same thing. You only hear from Connells when we need to divert the attention away from our poor form or something negative.. He is probably working on new material, hoping he never has to use it!!

why anyone would bag connolly is beyond me, everyone at the club reckons he is the dogs bollocks and if you've seen him in action at club functions you would have to agree. Schwarz credits him as one of the main reasons things are starting to happen at the club

Nicnat - hardly a stuff up. We were out-tanked back when we weren't tanking.

Lewis Jetta - garbage. He's older than all the other kids taken in his draft year, of course he's going to kick a few opportunistic goals. And if you mean we could have had him a year earlier, there'd be dozens of kids who did more than him in the Jetta/Bennell year... don't forget EVERY club overlooked him... If you're going to punish the club because of every mature age recruit we missed out on in his preceeding years of nomination, then there's literally HUNDREDS of cases where we "stuffed it up."

Personally JCB, I'll take the guys we have. Jetta is just another whippet goal-sneak. Plenty of those going round in every draft year.

I have noticed however, whenever Natanui is mentioned on MFC boards, everybody gets extremely defensive. Everyone on this board realises that there's an elephant in the room, but simply refuses to acknowledge it. Refuse to acknowledge it? Huh? It's probably talked about more here than on any club's boards. The only real crap we're getting is how impatient people are with Jack. And as far as denying NicNat is going to be a great player, who does that? Except the one or two clowns who are consistently overzealous in their support. NicNat is going to be great to watch as far as I'm concerned. But great player? Nothing I've seen has convinced me. Davey did the same or forward pockets as NicNat is supposedly doing for ruckmen. It'll make coaches and rucks change tack a little on game day, and probably in terms of recruiting... but then so did Davey. And he's not even playing forward anymore.

Here's another chestnut no-one's gone for yet. I'd take Scully's 26 possession game out of the guts in this side over NicNat's 13 possession game for the Eagles. Yes he's an excitement machine, but we've had a number of exciting players. I want consistency, courage, numbers... If we're REALLY worried about comparisons, let's go with this one. Jack circa 2013 vs NicNat circa 2013. If it all goes to plan Jack will be kicking bags of goals, hopefully aiming for 60-odd a season (average of three), giving the Jurrahs and Petterds room, as well as the second best defender. Meanwhile Jamar is seeing out a great career smashing Nicnat in finals, while Gawn and Spencer are his support.

If Jack becomes a 60+ goal a year forward (which is probably a conservative estimate given his gifts)... or even better a Riewoldt/Buddy type forward... then he'll have NicNat covered comfortably I reckon.

C&B I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to do this the other day, with the old "Not sure if serious" pic of Ledger in Batman. How did you manage it?
