When he was running around for us the last few years, it was so noticable how slow he was compared to other players.

He's an old style in and under footballer, but if you can't run in the game these days, you won't last.

I gotta admit I couldn't really be bothered having hard feelings.

But it was really annoying the way the commentators noted 'Mclean has been having a great game' every time he touched the ball for the first two weeks. That's not Brock's fault, just a product of cheap commentating where they run with a them no matter what.

Thing is, those first two weeks, nobody was on him.

This week against the Bombers he was matched up on a few opponents, and did nothing against the lot of them.

My honest hope is that from here on he plugs along accumulating games and making a reasonable, unexceptional contribution for a while. Just long enough for the commentators to have nothing to talk about.

Once the dust has settled, and Gysberts is showing enough for everyone to accept it was a win-win, Mclean is welcome to help Carlton along on the path to another elimination final loss, if they can even manage that this year.

I also don't really understand some of the vitriol directed at McLean after he left; I thought all parties handled the situation pretty well.

When the McLean trade was just a rumour, I was against it. My opinion was that even though he's never going to be the superstar we'd initially hoped him to be, he would still be a solid 200 gamer, and make a great supporting act to the likes of Scully, Trengove and Grimes. It is still early days; we've seen nothing of Gysberts yet and McLean has only played 3 games. But given that his pace doesn't seem to have improved, nor his propensity to break down, I'm starting to second-guess myself. This could still turn out to be a big win for Carlton and loss for the MFC, but I'm starting to doubt it.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
