Its time with all this talk of front ending contracts we need to aggressively attack the list of the 3-4 major clubs in the AFL - which luckily for us are Victorian based.

Geelong, St Kilda Bulldogs & Collingwood

We need to start now and get in their ears early - money talks.

I strongly believe that there are blokes missing out or will miss out to some extent during the course of the season - who would not easily walk into our 22.

Why would we pursue players from other clubs who would not be in our 22???

Attracting players to move from other clubs over the next couple of years will be very difficult as if they're an attractive player on the market then GC & GWS will be able to overbid every other club, and in some cases, just take them with no need to trade at all.

We've got a list full of promising young players, mostly high draft picks, our success will come from developing these kids, not from trading for other Clubs' players.

Looking at the four clubs you have named, even a player who is destined for a season in their VFL feeder club would still not be enthralled about joining us in our present position, in two or three years time the only danger we will have is other clubs trying to poach our talent, this is what we need to put all our efforts into, retaining them.

I can't see the need to even look at, the couple of players we have picked up through trades, Meesen - if he was fit and not cursed I reckon he would be flying and Joel Mc were both needs, we have the rest covered, what we need to buy is time

Like the Doggies, Cats and Saints we should focus on developing our own until such time as we only need a gun recruit to push us over the top (Ottens, Hall and King/Gardiner respectively).

We may be able to do it without the recruit, but we won't be able to do it without developing our own.

    Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill.     Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     DRUBBING by Meggs

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
