I don't know even if the club really knows which way they would have gone with this one.

They didn't. Well, according to Bailey he said as much on stage after Trengove and Scully were drafted (on Fox). Pretty much said the same as my last post. That if it were up to the Mfc they would have called them out together as they couldn't separate them. But it was a requirement they called them out one after the other.

Doesn't mean much in relation to the Hypothetical, but here are the sportsbet odds for Melbourne players to win the NAB rising star.

(Martin fav at $5.50)

Scully $8

Trengove $12

Watts $29

Gysberts $51

Tapscott $67

Blease $81

Spencer $81

Strauss $101

McKenzie $101

McNamara $101

Gawn $151

Fitzpatrick $251

Strauss is value at $101 I would have thought. In terms of value outside the Melbourne players, I would take Swift $26, or even Gary ROhan at $51.

In researching my DT and SC teams I stumbled across this page on the dreamteamtalk website re the top 10 draft picks. It is only useful re the latter part of my initial post re preferences for people's Dream Teams. You probably will need to vote to see the results (1,614 had voted at the time I posted this):

Based on what I've read, Trengove. I also like the fact that, along with Tapscott, he's committed to the club for three years.

But Scully's clearly an elite junior and he was obviously picked at number one for a reason.

As an aside, it's interesting to observe the universal excitement about now having both of these players - the consequence of a strategy that wasn't universally endorsed by all on this site only 6 months ago.

Would we have been better off to have beaten Richmond or some other battler club at the end of last season? The answer surely has to be 'no way'.

Hence, thank you Dean. No one can dispute that he's turned the quality of our list altogether. And that's exciting.

I'm happy to have them but the way we got them still leaves a dirty taste in my mouth. Demon supporters cheering and sing the Richmond theme song was the lowest point of our proud clubs history.

This hypothetical is stupid, it's the same as comparing Riewoldt and Koschitzke before they even played an AFL game. Give it time, you'll get the answers your after.

While I can appreciate the sentiments and acknowledged them in my initial post, I reckon you have to establish the general mood/ thoughts/ consensus at the time. Otherwise you'd have nothing to compare to when you look back in 5 years as you suggest. I was by no means looking for 'answers', just opinions and discussions.

Loved the bluntness of your first few words too mate, awesome, got a laugh out of it. I must be easily amused.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
