Brett.Lovett for starters. I think Blease and Strauss might still be fighting over it. Maybe it's a perform and you will get the number incentive?

Geoff McGivern, premiership player of the mighty fifties wore this number. He could play equally well at CHB or CHF.

Bert Chadwick and Denis Cordner before he wore #1 (changed when he became captain I think) That's two pretty big names. If Strauss can emulate Brett Lovett and become the rock of half back then 17 would be very appropriate.

Interesting, I think Blease will get number 17

Were Strauss and Blease both specifically interested in #17 or just an upgrade in general? I can only imagine a bit of competition if they have their eyes on that number specifically. It's not like there won't be any other numbers freed up at the end of 2010 - you'd think at least couple players will make way.

Big Kev--many thanks & sincerely appreciated for going to this trouble. I did not realise that so many great players had worn this jumper--no wonder the club has been in limbo to whom wears it now and in particular after 1997.

Yeah Lovett was a favourite but if the next demon to wear 17 is as good as La Fontaine we will be very happy supporters

Ok... I think we have to go back to 1942 before we touch greatness (Brett Lovett - next best), so I understand the tread lightly approach... Maybe Strauss... yep, I've made up my mind!

Just like to chip in and say that Jordie Mc Kenzie being given an early number was a telling gesture given the sacrifice he has made for the club. I would not suggest that this was in anyway token either. I believe the club giving him Number 13 was done with the knowledge that he is going to be a strong contributer to our club in the future. Lets not forget this young fella, people like him make great clubs. Come Round 11 I hope we see him on the MCG. Go Jordie!
